Okay, so. First off i've never made a map. Don't know anything about mods other than hitting auto-assign and choosing a loadout.

But, my question is.. Can you import maps from other games, older games, and.. what is the difficulty level to do so for someone who does not have experience with map making at all?

hey @Sikon Porting maps as it's referred to is not as simple of just importing them from one game to another. You would need the map's raw files and the raw map or arena file in order to re-compile for the game you would port into.

So, to answer your question, you need more than noob skill level.  Don't feel bad, i've had no success in porting old maps either.

Well damn.. Was hoping it was as simple as just converting some file formats. Lol I'll have to read more about it.

Witch games have you tried to import from?

Haha, ya not that simple I'm afraid.

I'm just working on COD5 maps for now.  Very time consuming and lots to learn as far as methods and tips for creating structures to terrain.

Depending on what game you are looking to do something for, our downloads section has a number of tools for this.  You can also check this site out https://wiki.zeroy.com/index.php?title=Main_Page for various games, tools, and tutorials on modding and mapping.

Feel free to ask away as we do have a few good modders and mappers here that can assist.

Good luck.

More or less wanted to import maps for COD4. Maybe some Medal of Honor stock maps, or Delta Force: Blackhawk Down stock maps. From the short reading I've done this morning, Medal of Honor may not be that hard? Seeing as they're both .map files? Blackhawk down on the other hand seems to be BMS/MIS file format? Im sure there's more to it than.. But, that's just what I came across so far from Google search.

Ya, once you get into different file types, you get into more work.  Good luck though.  Time consuming as I said but I certainly enjoy it.

I've read the post that Loco posted. Seems like it can get pretty complex for someone just starting out. Maybe I should try and just make a map for cod4 first. Might help me understand what I'm reading about the conversion of other game maps.

So I came across these videos. They're obviously older, but some what descriptive. Any thoughts ?

6 part tutorial for the basics of starting a new map.  I went to this guys clan site. They seem to have a lot of different mod tuts.

https://www.youtube.com/user/codnerdtube/search?query=CoD4+Mapping+Tutorial+Part+1

Cod4 Mod Tools install tutorial.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZNHfsiUhtQ

The only thing i'm not sure of on the installation. Is the person says you should have the original version (Not Steam) of the game to avoid errors. Can I use the Mod Tool successfully with the Steam version?
