Tried rubber snakes placed in obvious places?

Have actually tried rubber snakes to scare birds from my ripening cherry tree.

Snakes lost. It's an amazing sight. Birds know exactly when cherries are ripe for picking. They swarm the tree and strip it bare or damage what's left behind.

Large cheese cloth cover works best.

With a raccoon if it's not the right type of snake I think the raccoon might just look at the snake as free food. Raccoons are tough and smart.

Sometime when feeling better I will have to tell the true story of a pet wild raccoon, an ice cream cone and the family pet cat. I will only say this for now........ the cat lost.

I am making way to many typos in my posts and spend a lot of time on corrections. Must be the damn concussion.

Kidding aside I never knew the impact a concussion could have until now.

I hate making typing or spelling errors because I believe your grammatical presentation is a direct reflection on you as an individual.

We tend to slaughter the English language without even trying let alone with a concussion. If we did not have spell check god only knows what my posts would be like.

I used to box and play tackle football, with and without pads, and have been knocked silly few times in my years but never experienced anything like this. When someone now tells me they have a concussion I will have significantly more sympathy than I would have before my own current experience.

I can however tell I am getting better. When I stand up I only have to stand still for a minute or so before the room stops spinning. In bed, when rolling side to side, I have to hang on for fearing of falling out until the dizziness subsides.

All of which I can see improving daily.

I was also told by the Docs to expect much of this.

Certainly an odd experience for anyone who has not personally experienced it before. Trust me, words alone cannot define it.

Okay, the Coon vs The Cat story.

When I was a young teen I used to spend my summers at a home my parents were building in the Pocono Mtns. of PA. I was only 13 or so and on my own during the week. My parents came up on weekends to work on the house.

When not eating pre-prepared food my Mom had made I would often go to a local Bar / Restaurant for some Italian food using money I had earned from doing odd jobs for neighbors. I was quite good and sawing and splitting wood. No chainsaws then, just a good old buck saw, sledge and wedges. I never got an allowance, always earned my money and was allowed to spend what I earned.

Anyway Joe and Delores ran the restaurant and sort of welcomed me into their family. They also had two kids younger than me and the family Tomcat as a pet....if you could even call it a pet. Basically it just lived there.

Some evenings after they closed the store we would sit out back and Delores would get us ice cream cones. Well, there was also a raccoon who had become domesticated and would come over to us and beg for food. Needless to say he found us as easy pickings. The restaurant always had something to be offered from leftovers.

One evening Delores decided to give the raccoon her ice cream cone to see what he would do. Well that raccoon took that Ice cream cone and sat there holding it like the rest of us and thoroughly enjoying himself. Looked like he knew just what to do with an ice cream cone.

All is well until the old Tomcat comes on the scene. I don't know what got into that cats mind, jealousy maybe, but he came up behind the raccoon and took a swipe at it with his front paws. Well that raccoon turned, growled, dropped the ice cream cone and chased after the cat.

Old Tomcat thought he was smart and ran up the nearest tree, a place of safety I suspect he thought. Well he was wrong. That raccoon started right up the tree after him. Slower than the cat but making steady progress. By now all us humans were carrying on trying to discourage the raccoon from pursuing the cat. The raccoon obviously had no command of the English language and continued his pursuit of the cat.

Up the tree they went, my guess about twenty feet before the cat started out on a branch. No matter the raccoon continued pursuit. Soon they are close and both making noise, the raccoon a growling sound and the cat hissing. Well that raccoon continued closing on the cat until the cat fell out of the tree and beat it for parts unknown.

The raccoon at this time figured he had made his point to the cat, came back down the tree and resumed eating the ice cream cone which was now just lying melted on the ground. The raccoon ambled off when finished and needless to say that event has been retold many times.

Both cat and coon showed up on other days but if the coon was there first you would not see the cat. If the cat was there first the raccoon would still come and the cat would leave.

I am sure the cat felt the raccoon did not follow the rules and never should have been able to climb that tree.

After I got older and began hunting with Joe it was always a story that had to be told at the hunting camps we visited. Always worth a few laughs no matter how often told. What's missing here is hearing Joe tell the story. He was Italian, emotional, and not in full command of the English language. Add to it the expressionism of the Italian people and you can only imagine the laughs it got. Joe himself would have tears in his eyes from laughing before he was done telling.

Anyway, one of my cherished childhood memories.

wow...hope you feel better..

Thank's to all the XI members and guests who have expressed their concern both here and in game.

The brace is an annoyance and uncomfortable to wear when gaming. My head is pretty good except for occaissional battles with headaches that I was told to expect. I am making much fewer typos than before and take that as a good sign also.

Wed. I will be scheduling my follow-up visits with Neurologists and Orthopedic Drs. Until those visits and probable cat scans not much new will be learned.

Bottom line is I see improvement, I am already trying to figure out how to cheat with the brace and how I can sneak out of the house without wifey finding out....LOL.

The fear pf paralysis has so far kept me on the straight and narrow path. The problem is cheating with the brace because you think you are better when you may not be as good as you feel.

Even being a bit of a post whore helps pass time. This is being typed at 3:11 AM because staying in bed was very uncomfortable tonight. Seems if I get up and about a bit at night my back relaxes a bit and I can head back to bed.

First I want to thank all who have inquired about my well being while in game. It really shows the respect and courtesy XI members show to a guest.

Rather than trying to talk over the game noises and bore those who don't want to listen I thought I would post an update.

First my house is under repair to include significant modernization. I am closing in the fireplace and having a nice wood burning stove installed. Much more efficient and I can still enjoy the fire.

The "chase, which surrounds the fireplace flue and that the raccoons chewed through to get in my house has all been replaced. In tearing down the old wood two more dead raccoons were found inside the chase bringing the total to 6 dead, one live trapped and released. The dead ones in the chase had been shot by my son but made it back to the hole. Take my word for it, a .22 is not the best to kill a coon.

As for myself I am improving. Still get dizzy and have to watch my balance especially when changing from one position to another. Neurologist says all looks to be progressing normally and time should heal everything. Just don't know how much time it will take. Cat scans of my brain look good...and yes there is brain matter in there.

Gaming still bothers me. I can get dizzy or nauseous if I play too long. Again Doc says this is not abnormal. It's caused by the screen motion and concentration on objects that may or may not be moving. No harm done playing just inconvenient. He also tells me not to go see any 3 D type movies for awhile. Says they can really trigger nausea and dizziness.

My back is an issue...... it hurts. Just went to the Osteopath and he also says it is a matter of time. I have not taken many pain meds by personal choice except for bedtime to help me sleep. Sleep only lasts at the most 4 hrs. before back hurts to much to stay in bed. When up and about there is little problem. My recliner is a life saver for napping.

He did write a prescription for Celebrex which I have taken for the first time this evening. Other than that it's Tylenol only at bedtime. I still have some Percoset but do not take them, drugs are not my thing if I can avoid them.

Tried using a leaf blower the other day, not a good idea. Also hurt my back getting up off the cat scan table, that magnified the pain for a few days.

I have a prescription for PT and will be looking into that this week.

That's about it. Everything is going as well as can be expected and hopefully time and PT will take care of things.

Again, thanks to all who have asked.
