  1. There are several ferry routes from the Netherlands to the UK. If, for example, you travelled Rotterdam-Hull, the crossing would take 10 hours 45 minutes and there is a rail connection to cities all over the country - you wouldn't need to go anywhere near London or the south-east of England. I've checked the rail planner and you could get from Hull to Bristol by rail in 4 hours 45 minutes, changing trains once (in Sheffield). The length of your journey is largely dictated by your need to use a ship rather than a plane. I hope this helps.
  2. Happy 74th birthday, Neil Diamond! (b. 24 January 1941)
  3. A special greeting to all our admins, members and registered users from the land "down under"! Enjoy your national day and, I trust, participate in the national sports of beer-drinking and putting shrimps on the barbie! I expect you'll all be visiting the beach (rather than that "beeeech"! ) - if so, please do mind the poisonous jellyfish and hungry sharks. Have a blast and accept the very best wishes of one of the poms back in the old country! Advance Australia Fair!
  4. When trying to post a photo into the Jokes forum, I am no longer being prompted to browse and then upload. A single field labelled "URL" is displayed which, as the picture is not hosted elsewhere on the web, is of no use. So, you'll have to wait for your laugh today...
  5. The only real way to stop them operating is to fix stupid and we all know how difficult that is... I've considered picking up a random book, turning to a random page and then reading them a story while they deliver their script as an alternative to telling them they are criminals and then hanging up.
  6. The problem is that so many utility and phone companies have call centres there that legitimate contact would be impeded.
  7. Feliz cumpleaños, hermano! 41 años de edad! Lo que un hombre viejo! Disfrute de su día especial! [Edited as I am older and cannot count! Good video though...]
  8. @@Olive has a new theme song?
  9. Shocking news. Condolences to all your family. hxtr.
  10. Happy Birthday, Giggles! Frenchi will be calling on you soon...
  11. Bravo, @@Astronomer !
  12. Believe me, the effects of driving under the influence of cannabis can be as destructive to lives as driving over the alcohol limit. I am very pleased for you that you do not yet appear to have suffered the deleterious effects of drug abuse and wish you well for the future.
  13. Not a "crusader" but someone with a different perspective on a potentially harmful substance. If someone begins to suffer and their doctor cannot readily identify the cause, it is possible that lifestyle could be a factor and the cause could be physical, mental or a combination of both. There's been some constructive comment about stimulants and the need to avoid them. If a person advertises a particular "problem" among the awarded medals and a research paper has linked that "problem" to the problem about which they are posting, it is logical to mention it. I am not asserting that drug abuse is causing a sleep disorder but it remains a possibility that it has. If so, I hope the damage is reversible with treatment.
  14. I buy hemp occasionally... The fish quite like it! The lines on the boat are made from man-made fibres these days as they are less prone to rot. I don't "hate" marijuana but I do not like its destructive effects on the human brain or society. It isn't a wonder drug and, in thirty years of dealing with its users, I saw nothing to change my opinion of it. Mere unlawful possession is punishable by a maximum of five years imprisonment, with cultivating and dealing in it attracting heavier terms. I have no problem with the current misuse of drugs law whatsoever. If you'd suffered mental ill-health, you would not risk consuming a substance that could cause or worsen it, believe me...
  15. Thank you for letting us know, @ ,and for the link to the obit (via which there is a link to an in memoriam guestbook where one may offer condolences to Tball's family). May I offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to all those who were close to Tball. Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
  16. This is what happens when the larger, more modern ones reach the end of their lives. The final voyage of former P&O cross-Channel ferry "Pride of Calais"... http://youtu.be/7qjB0Xte1Ec Here's one of the new replacements now in service between Dover and Calais - "Spirit of Britain".
  17. Welcome to the forums, Gmax!
  18. Does your doctor know of your marijuana use? It could be germane... "In advance of that presentation, though, the researchers have announced that they found current and past marijuana users are significantly more likely to experience sleep problems than non-users." http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/277658.php
  19. SOLVED! The monitor had switched itself to dynamic contrast! I shall never buy another Samsung monitor again - it has been a heap of ****!
  20. For an unknown reason, my display now auto-dims when accessing this web site (only). I am using Windows 7 32-bit so there is no power management setting available that would cause this to occur (as in 8.1). As the onset of this problem follows this week's Windows update, I wonder if that is connected? GPU driver is up to date. Has anyone else experienced this problem and, if so, how did you solve it, please? (My eyes hurt...)
  21. NB: Al Murray is registering to stand as a candidate for the election to be held in May 2015. This is not a comedy spoof...really... (The bit about bricking up the Channel Tunnel appeals!)
  22. This is how folk used to travel to/from France in 1960... The structure ahead of the ferry is the old submarine pens, now long demolished. The modern ferries are very much larger than the "Maid of Kent"!
  23. Let's hope the sheriff auctions it off for charity. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-30828694
  24. Well, you would, wouldn't you?! Here's just one very brief and simple explanation by a consumers' organisation here: http://blogs.which.co.uk/technology/broadband/whos-managing-your-broadband-speed/ A matter of supply and demand. Those who use most tend to pay most.
  25. Already in place here as part and parcel of normal ISP behaviour. Traffic is throttled. I pay extra for an "optimised" gaming connection. It has nothing to do with "neutrality", taxation, government, conspiracies, the men in black or aliens. It is called capitalism. Look cheerful and pay up!
