  1. For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies: 1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits/Americans. 2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits/Americans. 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits/Americans. 4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits/Americans. 5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits/Americans. CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.
  2. Congratulations, Joe. Meanwhile, in Japan, they say...
  3. "Making a noise" is not a police matter in this enlightened land. It is an environmental health matter. One is perfectly entitled to raise ones voice in a public highway if one chooses. When the royal family is involved, it gets loud. Yesterday, there were gun salutes to welcome Princess Charlotte! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-32579253
  4. We have a General Election on 7 May. Depending on who forms the next government, we may actually have proper passport controls again but that's as serious as it could get. Once we're out of the European Union, the word is that we'd trade, like Canada, with most favoured nation status so our French cheese shouldn't cost any more.
  5. The "security guy" was a Metropolitan Police officer... The wellbeing of our royals isn't entrusted to security guards (yet!).
  6. Announced in a traditional manner...
  7. I'd be interested to know why you say that. There are so many variables, as far as I can see. I play all my games via a Homeplug linked to the house's electricity ring main... At 85Mbps maximum, it is likely to be a darned sight slower than wireless n. It's a whole lot quicker than the 'net connection, however, as that never tops 4-Meg!
  8. I'm so old that my pubic hair looks like an Ayatollah's beard.
  9. I'm so old that I rewind DVDs after I have watched them.
  10. It is the feast day of England's patron saint, today!
  11. Is that Dr Evil waving at you from the window??
  12. If you like good news stories, this could interest you. The author has done so much good in this world!
  13. In the days of the citizen journalist, armed with a smartphone, judgment can be made in the court of public opinion, thereby enabling everyone to jump to whatever conclusion their minds can imagine without a need to await a formal investigation and the process of a trial. The legal constraints on publishing material that is the subject of proceedings obviously vary from country to country. I think England's "sub judice" rules are about right, personally.
  14. To make informed decisions about AV programs, I suggest you keep an eye on Virus Bulletin. Contrary to what another commentator has asserted, AVG performs very well all the time and is consistently among the top-rated programs. If one uses the web without AV cover, one is asking for trouble. Ensure all web plug-ins are kept up-to-date and deactivate that for Java. Ad blockers and script blockers beef up browser security considerably but one has to strike a balance between ones ability to use the web and programs that inhibit web sites. I'm pleased to read that you've solved your adware problem.
  15. Looks like a potentially expensive way to view TV and movies... This is just one example of action taken against pirates in the USA: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4018755.stm Similar action is taken in the UK also.
  16. Good luck in the new house, Hack'! As others have said, I hope you keep the tags and keep in touch. Alles Gute!
  17. Cobra', may you and your family be granted strength through a difficult time. Wishing your Mum a speedy improvement in her condition.
  18. Happy Easter!
  19. This firefighter's flight should have landed by now so he will be with you soon... Happy Birthday!
  20. A peaceful and blessed Easter to you all!
