I am newly divorced and thank God to be rid of that crazy bitch. I was with her for 28 yrs and a couple days. I was raised when two people was married it was for life. Well it didn't happen that way. At the moment I have no plans to ever re-offend. Tho I do have a question for those who are supposedly in the know. What does it really mean when somebody says they have a soul mate? There is a verse in trhe Bible that says, "What God has put together, let not man put apart." It seems obvious to me that me and the x were positively NOT soul mates.

I've been with my wife since 1973.  I was 16 and she was 14 yrs old.  I'd have to say that we are "soul mates" in that we are mentally and "spiritually" joined at the hip after 37 years.  Sorry to hear about your breakup Dean. Twenty eight yrs is a very long time but if you were making each other miserable, I guess the "soul-mate" thing went by the wayside a while ago.  I've had my share of ups and downs with my wife and some downs have lasted a few years!  Sometimes I wonder how we've managed to stay together since we were kids. She and I are virtually different people now.

Now...on a serious note.

I have been married two times...screwed literally and figuratively and monetarily...

Yes, I am a FEMALE. I was FUCKED!!!!

Soulmate? A lame term that just came about the last decade... NO SUCH THING!!!!!

All there is, is trust and love...if you don't have that...why bother? All a soulmate means is "hey, I'm not supposed to work at it...we were meant for eachother..." which is a cop-out and bullshit. Every relationship, whether it be love, friend, family...requires WORK. The amount of work denotes the lasting of the relationship.....

P.S. And if BOTH parties want to work at it....

This is a warning to others not to mess with your marriage or anyone else's for that matter.  Marriage is intended to last a lifetime, that's why divorce is so messy and painful.

There have been times I couldn't stand my wife, but I still loved her.  Sorry to hear about your divorce Dean.

Yeah, what she said. (although the term has been around a lot longer than that)

I have been married now a little over 20 years. The only reason it has lasted is because we both want it to. You can do your very best to make a good choice... but it 'takes two to tango'. If one partner looses their brain, the other is just outta luck. One of the guys I work with was married for 31 years to his high school sweet heart. They have 2 grown sons, who have kids of their own. The guy doesn't run around, drink heavily, or mistreat her. He works hard and provides VERY well. One day, she up and says "I don't wanna be married any more". The poor bastard was crushed, because he still loves her and never even saw it coming. Shit Happens.

I am truly sorry that you went though what you did Dean. I wish the best for you in the future.

I don't know why couples marry these days, never mind the tax advantage. I have two daughters; one has divorced twice and the other is in the process (my wife and I have been married 40 years.) It's a different time, marriage has lost respect as an institution and it seems couples are better off dispensing with the ceremony and just shacking up.

I know you were looking forward to this Dean and hope the best for you. Just keep slamming it in the bathroom door.

congrats and sorry in the same breath Dean. I have been divorced once and have been with my wife now over 8 yrs. I have found that the trick to marriage has nothing to do with love. It has everything to do with one person having the were-with-all to bend and compromise for the sake of the whole. My wife can drive me crazy, but I love her very much and am dedicated to the principal of marriage come hell or high water...something   I wasn't so much the first time because of immaturity and lack of dedication to cause. As far as the term "soul mate" goes, the only soulmate i know is my foot and a comfortable pair of shoes, and they sure as hell aint mated for life. As far as the lifelong commitment thing, remember, the human animal is a mammal. Mammals for the most part are not a monogomous genus. Most tend to harem...i.e...all cloven hoofed animals, primates,lions...etc..etc. The only animal I can think of that truly mate for life are eagles....majestic carrion eaters that hunt when easy food is not readily available.(but on that note are fantastic hunters as well ). And never say you will not marry again, for that will surely wind up on the list  of "never do's" that you have done, just like it did for me. Good luck to you and enjoy leaving the toilet seat upWinkYell.

I agree Harry and you know what the funny thing is I joined a dating sight just for the hell of and I am simply amazed how many women have hit me up on there. One thing most all of them say they don't want any games , right? Well when you start talking to them all they do is play games. Another thing I have been hit up by many married women who want a just for sex relationship and you must keep it quiet. I have come to think that we as men have gotten so in tune with the provide for our own that we have neglected the other side of a relationship: the personal touch that women need from us! BTW I have received over 2000 messages from women just in the Seattle area alone, in less than 6 months!
