They're being reviewed on every decent hardware review sites... The Truth....IF YOU NEED TO UPGRADE NOW, for a gaming machine, LOOK NO FURTHER!!! The "unlocked" i5 2500K Quad (no hyper-threading) and the i7 2600K Quad (8 virtual cores with hyper-threading) are overclocking like gods too... They usually overclock to 4.5GHz or more...with minimal voltage increase and on AIR cooling!!! In fact, even at stock clock, they break even with the Intel Extreme edition 980x HEXACORE (selling for $1000)...the 2600K, the fastest and more expensive, will retail for $320 US.... The PCI-E lanes are directly connected to the CPU... The 2600K, OCed easily to 4.5/4.6GHz, beats the Intel extrem 980x (6-cores) monster... If you own an actual i7, IVY BRIDGE, coming late in late Fall 2011 will be on a 22nm process (even smaller and cooler than Sandy bridge), it will also support new 6-core CPUs.... I agree that if you have a 775 socket, that is a great upgrade. Same as you go from ATi/AMD video cards from 3xxx to 5xxx series or to have 5xxx to 7xxx series(soon). If I have the money or switch parts, I like to skip two generations. The latest Phenom II X4 975 from AMD is a bummer(just 100Mhz more with the last one, and Intel equals with the price with Sandy Bridge). AMD is going to (hopefully) take over the netbooks so they can produce, and get profits there, with the AMD Fusion Netbooks; DX11 support, low TDP(9 to 18Watts). After asking some questions over at xtremesystems.org (my buddy's site) they tell me that graphic card technology doesn't even need x8 right now. Therefore x16 is 3-4 years away. I was told the highest overclock on the best batch # i7-950 processors with Water Cooled equals what the 2600K will do air cooled. Time to put together a new shopping cart on newegg. Also in the specs of the ram you posted doesn't mention the ASUS P8P67 Mobo as a qualified mobo. Is that ram P67 tested? What did you choose for a heatsink? The Deluxe is a nice board! You're all set! I've picked up the Zalman CNPS 9900 Max heatsink for this. I currenty have a Thermalright TRUE Black 120 Rev.C CPU Heatsink but had to modify the 200 mm fan on the side of my case to make it fit. Since the proc is in a different spot from my current mobo it means more mods which I don't want to do. I got the Zalman as it's not as tall and hopefully will fit better. I'm waiting another few weeks to see how it pans out.. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow. The RAM I ordered finally arrived so I plan on ripping out my old board and installing the new one. I'm not even trying to OC it yet and it's faster than my OC'd e8500 from before. I had no problems with memory settings but I did manually set them in the bios. The 9900 max cooler works great as the system idles at about 28 degrees but I really haven't put it under any load yet for any length of time to see how high it gets. It is really cool though seeing 8 cores with the hyperthreading enabled, not that may programs take advantage of that yet. Oh, and BO multiplayer games load in less than 10 seconds now where I used to wait 30 - 45 just to get into the game at times and it is super smooth right now.
