WOOT.. just ordered all my parts for the long awaited new gaming rig:

COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 Black Steel/ Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor

ASUS Crosshair IV Formula - AM3 - AMD 890FX - ATX Motherboard

2 - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Kit (total of 8 Gig)

2 - SAPPHIRE 100290SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 2GB vid cards  (will be my first crossfire system)

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W Power Supply

I have read so much tech junk that my eyes are bleeding. I would like to say that I will never do it again, but I said that the last time I built the rig I'm on now. Using HD's from this rig ( I have billions of them) and dvd/cd etc. I wanted to go with 1000 watt PS.. but I was trying my damnedest to stay under $1500 bucks. I think 750W will be fine.

Look out all ya'll hacks, in less than a month I will be black-ops'in ya'll ass all over the place.

BTW.. I friggen luv NewEgg. I searched the world over, and I couldn't do better than the EGG anywhere .. except for the mobo which was out of stock. I had to buy it from Amazon.

Im runnin the older ATI 4850x2 video card.  Two 4850's on one card and it handles any new game at the highest settings with ease.  I know yours will too.  Do they still make the x2 cards ?  Easier to set up

I thought about it, but after reading the following I didn't really think the extra 100+ bucks was worth it.

I dunno MikeB.. this is the first time I've ever even dealt with ATI cards.. I've been an Nvidia man up until now. I decided to make a change and see the other side of the fence. I assume a x2 card is what it sounds like, 2 cards in one? I actually bought 2 cards.

Make sure you get the newer, version 2, tx750.They are 80plus bronze and are more efficient than the older tx series.

Nice stuff BAMA.

The HAF X is a sexy beast!

Unless I'm blind, I didn't see an Aftermarket Heatsink...Grab one!!!!!!!!! so ypu''l be able to OC that bastid 1100T

I own a XFX HD5870 reference card and I love it. I really thought about getting another one for crossfire glory, but I now hesitate...2 Hd6950s in crossfire are a good option too, 30% to 40% faster than a GTX580...then I could pass-on my XFX HD5870 to my daughter...I could recuperate her XFX HD5770 to build a home theather PC!!!

Computer hardware drives me crazy...it's my thing I guess...

Crap!!! I could have bought anything.. but I chose this because of size vs price. There are several peeps on the OCboards that use this memory with this board.. but they are serious tweekers already. I may be calling ya if it doesn't go down smoothly for me, cause I am a fighter not a lover..if ya get my drift (I'm stuuupid). I don't even know what a patriot sector 5 is.. is that part of the CIA or FBI?Laughing

UPDATE:

I have all my stuff, and made a few changes. My original RAM got lost in shipment, so I ordered more.. and then OF COURSE the original RAM showed up. LOL

The second time I ordered, I went with 8 gigs (2 kits) of G.SKILL PI 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL6D-4GBPI. It's CAS 6 with timing of 6-8-6-24. I think I will like it better.

SO.. I got 8 gigs (2 kits) of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000). It's CAS 9 with timing of 9-10-9-28. If anyone is interested, I will make a good deal. Otherwise, I'm gonna RMA it back to newegg.

I also changed the PSU from the 750 Watt to a SilverStone ST1000-P 1000W 80+Silver. SO, I have the CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W Power Supply 80 bronze up for sale or I will RMA it too. It IS the later TX version and is a good PS.

I have put it all together, and am waiting until tomorrow to fire it up. I have to work tonight. I will let you know how it goes, maybe post some pics of the beast later.

I always run ATI cards, I am running a 6850 right now, just did not have the bucks for the 6870.

I plan on dropping in a 1100T soon on my old MSI board and I always use cooler master cases, so I can't see a problem with your build.  I run an OCZ 750 watt PS, but I also like corsair

Good luck.

Post some pics if you like!

I've been using some Gskill RAM along with ASUS boards with no issues personally.

I love my HD5870 card also.

BUT, I have the upgrade itch again...I'm eyeing a HD6950 crossfire setup...or Sandy bridge...or Sandy + an second HD5870, or a single GTX580 and/or....FOK!!!!!!!!

Drives me nuts...Too bad AMD Bulldozer will be released June 20th...it;s still a long way to go..

AMD Bulldozer Llano Zambezi OrochiAMD Finalizes Shipment Dates for Next-Gen Chips.

AMD FX-Series "Bulldozer" to Ship in June, "Llano" to Land in Early July

[03/07/2011 04:57 PM]
by Anton Shilov (FROM XBITSLABS)

Advanced Micro Devices has finalized shipments schedules of its future microprocessors, according to industrial sources. The world's second largest designer of x86 microprocessors will begin commercial shipments of its high-end FX-series chips based on Bulldozer micro-architecture in the second half of June and will initiate supplies of A-series code-named Llano accelerated processing units (APUs) in early July.

Shipments of AMD FX-series high-end desktop microprocessors will commence on the week of June 20th, 2011; Supplies of A-series APUs will begin on the week of July 4th, 2011, according to industrial sources. As expected, AMD's Bulldozer central processing units for desktops will become available earlier than Llano APUs. As a result, AMD will be able to create a "halo" effect for its microprocessor lineup with a high-end offering that is projected to outperform existing Phenom II chips by 50%.

Based on a document seen by X-bit labs, AMD plans to release four eight-core AMD FX8000-series chips, two six-core AMD FX6000-series microprocessors and two quad-core AMD FX4000-series central processing units (CPUs) this year;

miam miam give me sum....

anyway, I don't know how I could possibly wait that long...

Wow, I like that case Kswift. It is similar to the coolermaster I bought.

I am finally on the new rig. I luvs it! I will post links to the parts and a couple of pics I took today. I was blown away by Windows 7, I have been running XP up until now and I really like the Win7 features and how 'smart' it is.

Here is the final rig:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor

COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 Black Steel/ Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

ASUS Crosshair IV Formula - AM3 - AMD 890FX - ATX Motherboard

2 - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 2GB vid cards (Eyefinity 6 edition)

8 gigs (2 kits) of G.SKILL PI 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL6D-4GBPI

SilverStone ST1000-P 1000W 80+Silver Modular Power Supply

I still haven't gotten an aftermarket cooler for the CPU yet, but so far the stock AMD cooler is doing pretty well. I plugged in 2 500GB WD Sata HD's that I had on hand.

I'm still getting used to the ATI vid cards. I have used Nvidia forever.. and I am not real satisfied with the look/feel of my screen yet. I have a 32" 1080p LCD and it looked real good before, I just have to adjust the colors I suppose.

Gaming is MUCH better looking at least. I can max out COD4 on all settings without a hiccup. I played BLACK OPS for the first time last night (single player) and was flat out amazed. It's a pretty good game so far, and the graphics on this rig are awesome.

Pic of the rig:

315a.jpg

I tried to take more, but crappy camera batteries died.. and my webcam doesn't take such great pics.. so that is all for now.

I had a lot of fun building it. I hope it will keep me gaming for a few years at least. I have about $1500 bucks in it so far.

Ok, this is a final on the build. I know this is an old post.. but me and MoFo are gonna chat a bit about overclocking :)

Here it is MoFo, the rig:

- AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor
- CORSAIR Hydro H70 CWCH70 120mm High Performance CPU Cooler
- ASUS Crosshair IV Formula - AM3 - AMD 890FX - ATX Motherboard
- 2 - SAPPHIRE 100290SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 2GB vid cards
- 8 gigs (2 kits) of G.SKILL PI 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory                                 Model F3-12800CL6D-4GBPI
- SilverStone ST1000-P 1000W 80+Silver Power Supply
- Sony Optiarc Black 24X DVD+R blah blah blah Burner
- A bunch of Sata HD's (not great transfer rates, but had them already.. WD 500G's) About 4 Tb total lol.
- COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 Black Steel/ Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

At first, I had 'better' ram.. but I changed my mind because this ram is CAS6, whereas the ram I had originally bought was CAS9
(8 gigs (2 kits) of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 - PC3 16000). I did a lot of reading and thought that the Pi would be better in the long run.

Any suggestions on OC would be fine. Frankly, I've read so much on the subject that at the moment, I'm numb. Hopefully, some of it will sink in and I can tweak around on it some more. I'm currently running stock configuration.

CPUZ1.jpg

cpuz2.jpg

I auto OC'ed to around 4, but it appears it (IT being AMD overdrive) only boosted the CPU voltage to achieve it). I tweaked around on some other settings.. Bus Speed and such.. but it never got stable under load. The only thing I OC'ed that was stable was to about 3.85, and that is stock TURBO.. so I don't really count that.
