Early info on the BETA that came out today from pre-order lucky-bastards/idiots!!!

http://vr-zone.com/articles/battlefield-3-beta--performance-preview-screenshots-and-hd-video-walkthrough/13625-2.html

Interesting read!!!!!!!

PUNKBUSTER support!!!!

From VR-ZONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

battlelog2.jpg

Both nVIDIA and AMD issued updated preview drivers to support BF3. BF3 responds really well to dual-GPU configurations for SLI/Crossfire goodness...

My test trial of the new nVIDIA driver for BF3 gave me a good 140 points in 3Dmarks11 (Pscore) for a total of 8537 from 8399...good driver!!! (it's still a preview driver that will be officialized in a WHQL revision later obviously)!

New videos from the BETA...most of the options menus are covered!!!!

-War tapes is back (best sound effects)

-controls for : Vehicles, choppers, jets and of course on foot...

lots of graphical options, to adapt to most graphics cards configs...

Make no mistakes tho...BF3, just like BC2 was, LOVES quad-core CPUs....

Exe, my good man,

The point is to bring in the latest!!!

As always in late Fall period (I'd almost say X-mas gifts purchase), there is a few major games coming out...

I thing that both BF3 and MW3 will do well in sales.

For BF3, we gather already 5 or 6 players in teamspeak 3 (BF3 channel)!

I've played the BETA for a bit, and I like the ASSAULT class (that doubles up as the medic) and the SUPPORT (machine gunner that supplies ammo)..it's well balanced. It's also cool to be able to use the bipods on those machine guns everywhere to increase accuracy...

you get points for (as other things) :

-reviving people

-spotting enemy

-replenish ammo

-laying suppressive fire on the enemy with MG

Basically, it rewards the team players!!!

You know you want it EXE!!!

Cool

LOL, I don't any financial interest in this!

I usually expect a game to last me a good year+...and I think that one will be it!

Now, more news...

don't try to join the hacked 128 player servers!!!

From Battlefield 3 blog...

On October 1st, 2011 in News

BF3 hacked

The Battlefield 3 beta is currently seeing well over 100,000 players spread out across numerous game servers, all officially running the Operation Metro map with the Rush mode, with support of up to 32 players.

Unofficially, however, several servers have been popping up with the conquest version of Operation Metro, which supports up to 64 players. Not only that, some game servers have already been hacked to support up to 128 players — we’ve tested out Operation Metro on conquest with 64 and 128 players, and can confirm their existence, albeit, the 128 player server lagged considerably.

Since then, DICE has released a statement on Battlelog, informing users not to join any unofficial/hacked servers. Doing so can compromise your EA account and have it banned by EA (meaning you won’t have access to your other EA games, either).

Basically, keep joining official servers thru the game browser Quick match!!!

Here s the link for the newest map and more final gameplay...

">

by the way,

Beta is to test the server in Battle log and plus origin.. test the stability of the servers... But it will completely change the gameplay in Final release.....

here 's the Final fix from BETA ...

(Not a complete list – for up to date news, visit the News section in Battlelog)
* Fixed occasional client crash when reviving.
* Fixed killcam showing glitched area under map if your killer is dead.
* Issue with spawning on dead squad mates fixed.
* Fixed a bug where shooting at a moving enemy could cause more than the intended amount of damage.
* Crosshairs for shotguns have been replaced with a new, thinner, art.
* A subtle low health screen effect has been added.
* Tweaked scores of Medals and Service Stars.
* Tweaked the Rank progression.
* Pushing prone on console will not play the animation twice.
* Fixed loss of Squad Leader after EOR at some times.
* Framerate stability fixes.
* The 3D spotting icons has been tweaked to better match the target’s visibility. Icons will show frequently less on mostly obscured targets.
* Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after round transition.
* Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after trying to deploy while the countdown timer still active.
* Squad list now shows specializations chosen, VOIP activity and dead squad mates.
* Non working options in squad menu fixed: "Private" flag and "Switch Teams".

What is different than MW3:

->Various types of planes, heli, vehicles ,etc.

->All maps are made for snipers and campers ..

->We can all be in Squad as team (4 man team within team) to help out each other with Ammo, health, Spawn Point, Sniper support, Engineer support.

   # more strategic and realistic gameplay. different than MW3 where everyone uses Assault Weapons and very low amount of ppl uses the snipers...

-> Pressing Q on enemy highlights the enemy position for the squad so everyone aim for that specific target ( I love it).

-> Different types of Attachments for guns, snipers, etc.

->There is no bunny hopping here... but it comes down to how accurately you can shoot enemy in close combat...

& More to come

Smile

Multi-player Game Modes

  • Squad Rush - Copied over from Battlefield Bad Company. Source
  • Team DeathMatch - Source
  • Squad DeathMatch - Source
  • Coop - 6 coop missions. two players, peer-to-peer over the internet. Each mission is between 15 and 45 minutes. Source.

Single-Player Game

  • Will there be a single-player mode? Yes - Source
  • Will the same characters appear in this game as BFBC1/2? No. Source
  • How long will it take to complete the single player game? 12 hours. Developer estimate, YMMV.

Soldier Classes & Weapons

  • Assault - The Assault Class will be carrying a medic kit and will also be able to revive fallen teammates on the Battlefield with a defib kit. Source
  • Support - The Support class can throw out ammunition as well as using an LMG to fight his way through hordes of enemies. The LMG is equipped with a bi-pod that you can fold out when you prone to give you that extra accuracy. Also, if you lay down some of that heavy suppressive fire on an enemy, you could also score some extra points as you’ll blur the enemies vision. Source
  • Engineer - The engineer class is equipped with a submachine-gun with a flashlight that can actually be used to blind people thanks to the great tech provided by the Frostbite 2 engine. This is especially useful in the Operation Metro map due to the narrow spaces and darker areas of the map. The class also comes with a welding tool to repair friendly vehicles as well as an RPG to destroy enemy vehicles. Source
  • Recon - The Recon class has a semi-automatic sniper rifle and is also equipped with some powerful C4. Those C4 explosions can cause destruction - a Battlefield favorite - anytime, anywhere. Source

Weapons, gadgets, and specs - *** WIP - I slotted all the weapons from the fact sheet in where I THINK they will go. Will correct as more info becomes available! ***

BF3 and battlelog : First Impression

Battlefield 3 goes on sale in less than a month, and EA finally opened the beta yesterday for press and those who already pre-ordered. There's no doubting that BF3 is one of the most hotly-anticipated titles of 2011, especially if you're a PC gamer. Chances are you've seen all the trailers, TV spots and videos (

is my favorite), and now you're looking for something a little more substantial...

I've logged about five hours in the beta so far, and if I was unemployed, that number would probably be 2-3 times that. Before going into any more detail, it's important to note that this is a beta, so some things are intentionally rough and incomplete.

Starting with Origin; the service is pretty intuitive, simple, and didn't make me pull my hair out and/or smash my keyboard against the wall. EA has made several attempts at digital downloads - outside of Steam - in the past (EA Download Manager, EA Link), and all of those services were downright awful. While making purchases on Steam was simple and effective, I would intentionally avoid EADM/Link and buy my EA games on Steam or at Best Buy (shudder). Thankfully, EA has pulled its head out of you-know-where, and the end result of that and putting together a solid dev and QA team is Origin.

I've had an Origin account for a while (thanks to Crysis 2 and my BF3 Alpha invite a few months back), so I already had the client installed when the beta started yesterday. Updating the client is a breeze, and no restart is required for such an event. I got an email from EA with my beta code, and I redeemed it like you would any other code on Origin. Less than 90 minutes later, and BF3 was ready to play...almost.

EA-Battlelog-Battlefield-3,P-T-309377-13.jpgloupe.gifZoom

What immediately separates BF3 from its predecessors is Battlelog, a new browser-based service from EA that acts like the server browser you would normally find embedded in the game itself. Why did EA and DICE decide to separate this service out from the game itself? For starters, it makes updating the server browser and its various components much easier, since you don't have to release it in/with a patch for the rest of the game. Updates are done quickly and efficiently, too. Furthermore, Battlelog is more than just a server browser; it also acts as a chat client, stats board, forums, and clan page. Everything that the Battlefield community would do outside of the game has now been brought in-house...not to say that external stats pages and boards aren't necessary, but it's nice having a solid community portal baked into the BF experience by the company making the game.

EA-Battlelog-Battlefield-3,P-U-309378-1.jpgloupe.gifZoomThere are some glitches, however, but hopefully these will be ironed out by the time the beta is complete. Your friends list in Origin is not seamlessly imported to your Battlelog friends list.  The Party function, which allows you and your friends to all join a server at once, doesn't always work, either. Once everything is working as it should, the experience will be nearly as good as playing a game through Steam.

So what about the game? For now, the beta focuses on the same map and mode as the Alpha: Rush on Operation Metro. Plenty of tweaks have been made since the alpha. Blowing up M-COM stations is no longer possible, so it's classic "arm and defuse" for now. M-COM locations have also changed in some of the zones, but only by a few feet. Ultimately, if you've played Rush mode in Bad Company 2, you'll be right at home in in BF3. That said, this game mode tends to favor the team on defense; If you're attacking (trying to blow up the M-COM stations), you're in for a bit of a grind.

EA-Battlelog-Battlefield-3,Q-2-309386-1.jpgloupe.gifZoomGun control has seen a significant change, as the kick you experience when firing an M16A3 is enough to warrant some serious mouse-dragging when emptying a clip. Rockets have a different feel as well; When using an RPG or SMAW, you need to factor in for distance and gravity way more than in previous titles. Also, the TOW missiles aren't as responsive to movement as I'd like them to be, as there seems to be some significant lag between cursor movement and missile movement. As for weapon damage, there aren't any changes immediately discernible when compared to the Alpha. Compared to Bad Company 2, the food chain (Support machine guns > Assault/Medic assault rifles > Engineer rifles and SMGs) is the same, but Sniper/Recon weapons are very different. Gone are the days where one or two shots are a guaranteed kill. A headshot is necessary to put someone down that fast with the M14, and snipers will be working harder for their kills. All in all, the infantry combat feels more like Medal of Honor than it does Bad Company 2, which makes sense if you factor which engine is used in each game (plus, DICE did the MP work on MoH).

EA-DICE-Battlefield-3,P-Y-309382-13.jpgloupe.gifZoom

The class design in BF3 harkens back to the days of BF2, as it gives medpacks and defibrillators back to the Assault class, and the ammo packs to the MG-hauling Support. Engineer is the same as it was in Bad Company 2, although your weapon options are a bit beefier (M4, anyone?).

But what about vehicles?! Sadly, there are no vehicles on Operation Metro while playing Rush. The APC that was present in the Alpha is gone, so it's strictly an infantry war. There's supposedly a build of Caspian Border being played on several password-locked servers, complete with several kinds of vehicles. Unfortunately, that is not open to the public, or me, so there isn't much to write about on the front...yet. Based on previous Battlefield games, you can probably guess what vehicles are going to be included in BF3. My hope is that another map is added to the beta at some point in the near future, because I know players are clamoring for a Conquest map with vehicle play. Rush caters more to the Counter-Strike and Call of Duty crowd. Is that an important constituency to lock down? Absolutely, but EA and DICE risk alienating the hardcore Battlefield fanbase by not including a Conquest map.

EA-DICE-Battlefield-3,P-X-309381-13.jpgloupe.gifZoom

Graphics: What can be said that hasn't been already? The game is gorgeous, thanks to the new Frostbite 2 engine. Like most betas, you're limited in what can be changed (like motion blur doesn't always turn off, and playing in a window is a bit buggy). My rig (Core i7-860, AMD Radeon 6970, 8 GB DDR3-1600, 300 GB VelociRaptor) handled the game while it was (supposedly) on Ultra settings...but since this is a beta, it's hard to tell when certain setting actually kick in and when they don't.

Thus far, Battlefield 3 has met all of my expectations: The weaponry is diverse and easy to control/manipulate, while the Rush game mode is the same as it is in Bad Company 2, take it or leave it. I've been a devout BF player for years, so I won't be satisfied until I get more time in on a Conquest map (or rather, time that I can actually talk about). Most of the glitches in the game, like the headaches that go with trying to switch squads, will (hopefully) be fixed in the coming weeks.

If I missed anything, or if you have any questions about BF3, leave 'em in the comments and I'll answer them in order. Also, I'll be talking about BF on Twitter, so feel free to hit me up there as well (@devinconnors).

PS

If you're in the beta now, or starting tomorrow, look for me in the servers! (mcdoomington)

I truly hope they straighten out the key option assignments. For instance .....I must use a game pad as I have only 2 fingers that work properly on my left hand.... That said I was trying to set game pad as I did for every other game I've played ..... I bind my crouch to the "tab" key and when I hit it it brings up the current team scores like F4 does and of course I crouch........but cant see a freakin' thing cause of the score board LOL.   I'm sure its a Beta issue or damn hope it is.  past that it seems pretty good. My Beta experiences though have proven to be not as exciting as the release. I'm sure this will have about 3 patches before being really good game play.  Just my humble opinion.     Maybe I can corner  MOFO and he might know the work around for this

It's a beta issue i believe. I was able to set my G13 gamepad up as long as I assigned the keys to letters i.e. as long as i set crouch to "c" and assigned a key on my gamepad to "c", my gamepad worked fine.

You saw the last EA announcement about BF3 beta?

If you connect your account on a server with more than 32 players...

[...] you may see your EA Origins account suspended, locking you out of not just the Battlefield 3 beta, but everything else—legitimate or no—associated with the account... [...]

Thanks for the hard work Rockape!

We might, one of these days, require a BF3 medal! Of course, the game is not out yet, so there is no rush...

Again, Thanks!!!

Today,

EA released info on some multiplayer maps...

From EA website (more to come):

OPERATION FIRESTORM

OperationFirestorm_2D00_2_2D00_550.jpg
OperationFirestorm_2D00_1_2D00_350.jpg

WORKING TITLE> OILFIELDS
DICE INTERNAL DESIGNATION> MP012
SUPPORTED GAME MODES> ALL
BRIEF> ALL-OUT DESERT WARFARE

FICTION> U.S. AND RUSSIA LAUNCH LARGE-SCALE ASSAULTS TO CONTROL IRAN’S BIGGEST SOURCE OF OIL. SECURING THIS AREA WILL OFFER FULL CONTROL OF THE SECTOR AND ITS KEY FACILITIES.

DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of our largest and most vehicle-friendly map, Operation Firestorm is the classic Battlefield gameplay taken to the extremes. Size-wise, and with some puzzle skills, you could actually place three Atacama Deserts -- one of the largest maps from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 -- within the playable area of Operation Firestorm. This is a wide-open desert map where the burning oil fields in one direction are contrasted by clear blue sky in the other direction. Construction sites dotting the area bring interesting possibilities for infantry to hide in elevated positions, spot vehicles, and take them down by mortar or RPG.

OPERATION MÉTRO

OperationMetro_2D00_2_2D00_550.jpg
OperationMetro_2D00_1_2D00_350.jpg

WORKING TITLE> METRO
DICE INTERNAL DESIGNATION> MP015
SUPPORTED GAME MODES> ALL
BRIEF> INFANTRY FOCUSED COMBAT IN SUBWAY

FICTION> HEAVY FIGHTING IS EXPECTED AS U.S. FORCES PUSH TO SECURE THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT IN CENTRAL PARIS. RUSSIAN ANTI-AIR EMPLACEMENTS IN CHARDONNAY PARK ARE LIKELY TO BE THE FIRST TARGET.

DESIGN THOUGHTS: Operation Métro is the map from E3 and the Open Beta, so some of you are familiar with it already. It is a map that perfectly illustrates that we want to take our players on a journey. Especially in Rush, you can see how Operation Métro is almost three maps within one: You start out in a lush park, then move into a bombed-out section of the subway tunnels, to finally emerge in a dense urban environment outside the Paris stock exchange. It’s a map that asks you to constantly adapt your class and load out for the diverse situations you will find yourself in.

TEHRAN HIGHWAY

MP003_2D00_1_2D00_550.jpg
MP003_2D00_350.jpg

WORKING TITLE> HIGHWAY
DICE INTERNAL DESIGNATION> MP003
SUPPORTED GAME MODES> ALL
BRIEF> INFANTRY FIGHTING IN TIGHT CITY STREETS

FICTION> A FIGHT FOR CONTROL OF ACCESS ROUTES NEAR TEHRAN. U.S. FORCES MAKE A PUSH FROM THE HILLS UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS WHILE RUSSIANS HAVE SET UP DEFENSIVE POSITIONS ALONG THE MAIN ENTRANCE POINTS.

DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of the inspirations for this map was a photo of a night time skyline of Tehran which now is basically the same vista that is available in the game. You start up on the hills above the city outskirts and eventually work your way into town. This atmospheric night-time map, where you can see rockets lighting up the sky, has a balanced mix between vehicle and infantry focus. It plays length-wise and starts semi-open with plenty of room for vehicles, but ends on a much more urban and tight note with less focus on vehicles and more on infantry.

DAMAVAND PEAK

DamavandPeak_2D00_3_2D00_550.jpg
DamavandPeak_2D00_1_2D00_350.jpg

WORKING TITLE> BASEJUMP
DICE INTERNAL DESIGNATION> MP013
SUPPORTED GAME MODES> ALL
BRIEF> FIGHTING IN WINTER MOUNTAINS

FICTION> A RUGGED MOUNTAIN AREA PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN DECIDING WHETHER RUSSIAN OR U.S. TROOPS ARE SUCCESSFUL IN COMBAT OPERATIONS IN THE SECTOR, AS THE AREA IS HOME TO KEY RADAR INSTALLATIONS.

DESIGN THOUGHTS: Damavand Peak, internally known as Base Jump, is built on the idea that we want players to be able to base jump, and features our most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map. Attackers in Rush and Squad Rush will start high up on a mountain ridge above a mining facility. The only way down into the valley is to somehow make the 500 meter descent. The further the attackers progress in the map, the more vehicle warfare will be present. There is also a large tunnel section dug into the mountain side at the bottom of the map, and the view when you look up at the starting location is spectacular.

Come back tomorrow for the remaining five multiplayer map reveals.
