My computer crashed the other day. Recovered all my files OK but would like to install the infamous Black edition of XP.

I've got a copy (but will use my valid serial#). Problem is, when I try to install it has given me various faults. No bootmgr, missing nl.dll and now:

STOP: To protect your computer blah blah blah

Error Code 0x0000007b

0xf78da524

0xc0000034

0x00000000

0x00000000

I have tried to install many times but it always fails. I'm d/l a different copy to try next but would like your thoughts as to a way to fix it.

I can install regular windows ok and I have run killdisk and Samsung ESTools to lowlevel format the drive (Samsung Spinpoint HD502IJ).

The black edition is a slipstreamed version of XP. It has a bunch of MS BS removed and give a smaller footprint. It allegedly runs faster due to all the unneeded background services being removed.

Thanks for the help guys.

Format the drive and start over... delete the partitions during setup then recreate and do a fast format.

Like cobra said a HD problem but may not be a bad drive.. but it also can be.

It's sata drivers not wanting to play with XP. I'll have to slipstream the drivers into the Black edition and retry.

Also check my other post about the virus I was fighting.

I wasn't familiar with what the XP black edition was so I googled it...Most threads on the subject warned that most copies of the black edition have viruses attached... :) :)

I got mine from piratebay. I virus checked it before I ran it so it was clean. The virus was from before I d/led balck edition. I'm in the process of comparing my valid XP disk to the Black Edition and will make a slipstreamed version of mine just like the d/led version. I'll be using nLite to do the build process.

Got it up and running. Used a newer version of Black Edition. I really like the way it runs. Quite a bit faster on bootup and while running. Didn't like being loaded off thumbdrive though. Had to burn a disk.

The viruses that everyone talks about Black Edition having are the keycode finder and reg hack programs that are supplied with the programs. They are flagged because they do the same thing as some viri do, steal keycodes and hack registry settings. You'll also see "stolen" programs mentioned. All the programs supplied by Zone 54 (the original makers of the Black Edition) are open source or free download trials.

Try it you'll like it.
