I have started construction of my second COD4 map. Here is the rough outline:

It's basically two islands in an obvious shape, with a big house/mansion in the middle of the X, and likely out buildings, etc. I am going to put in teleporters to get from island to island, etc.

 

So anyway - I am looking for requests. If you want to put it in the map and I am smart enough to make it (a big if), let me know and I'll see what I can do. I already have Billyblade's basement room planned in my mind, and Chilly's manlove cave. I was thinking I might put in a stye for Llama.

Where are we spawning, one team on each island? One team is closer to the building than the other, no? Or maybe it's just a map for free for all?

 

What happens when we're going into water? Death or..

My initial plan was to make the water kill you - I was toying with the idea of making it so if you wanted to swim in it (but drown if you stay under too long) you could, but likely it will cause death.

 

Spawn points, I thought, would be on opposite ends of the X. So one in the lower left, and one in the upper right... the I will be accessible via teleporter, and the teleporters will be equidistant from the spawns.

 

The mansion in the center will be on a big hill so you can't see from one end of the X to the other.

 

I was thinking that getting to the I would provide you teleporter options to get anywhere else on the X; so there is a reason to go there.

4fd0edff09a12_Map.pngi say u set up the spawns like that T1 being team 1 and T2 being team 2 and have sniper towers, tunnels, random buildings and stuff but make it for the most part symetrical :)

 

(the red line in the middle is to show where to divide the map's symetry)

For the beta server, if it is in fact using TDM spawns, I could place spawn points for each team on two different parts of the X. So allied up top and axis down below, for example....

I like it pancakes ... spreading the spawns across both islands like that. I think that is doable on the new version, but not on the older versions of ftag.

Looks like a good layout for a prison motiff. The center building is the main complex that houses the prisoners. Make the building a smaller X of sorts inside the bigger one with the center part taller than the rest of it. The four ends of the X has guard towers with turrets (depending on the size of the map). Surround the island with a tall fence. The 'I' houses the various admin buildings. Make the water space in between a harbor of sorts with two sides. One is for transfering the prisoners into the facility and the other is for the guards etc. Also add boats to hide in.

 

So basically an XI Alcatraz to send all the naughty players.

Oh... and for spawn points... Opfor players are the prisoners and Marines are the guards. As for pictures, perhaps you should have a contest for who gets to be the warden.

Gonna be hard to finish a round in freezetag if there are 3 different spawns away each other eheh

 

Can we shot enemy spawns directly? Or there will be some relief/mountains?

Agreed Exe. I will probably limit the spawns in some way. There is relief on the map via the terrain, so shooting from one spawn into another will probably not happen. I generally like to fog the map a little so it's hard to see that far anyway.

Thats a nice layout. Careful with the fog. It can cause lag especially on large maps if there is too much. If the goal is to obscure some visibility maybe set the map at dusk or something like that. Could also make it a night map in general. Starry sky and all of that. But light up the play area with some ambient moon light and also some strategically placed spotlights.

why no random spawns...some people hate it but it gives an extra mode of frustration on a map.

 

it doesn't look too big so maybe it's a good idea.

 

the building? is it gonne be 1 floor or multi? maybe you have to make an invisible ladder to the roof than for the snipers.

 

hills on the I island would be good and some high grass on the X island.

Nah not at all. Tho there is something to be said for lesbo prison pornos. Actually, there is a UT2K4 custom sniper map of a porn shop. Whoever made it probably searched around on the internet for every single dvd cover he could find to put on all the boxes. In all categories.
