hey folks,

well as things go with any new system it takes a while to iron things out. in this instance it happens to be a download problem. now when i am using firefox my downloads are slow but steady. as with my old machine the downloads were not at lightening speed and can be attributed to my low end conn. that i am forced to have because of low funds but its way faster than dsl. now the particular problem i am having is when in game and trying to download a new map. now with my old machine (same connection) i could download a new map in around 3 minutes and i would enter the game with no problem. now as we all know that every map has multiple files and with my new machine when i start to download it will dload the first file in a few seconds, but when i hit the second file the rate drops to 10 or 12 kb and slows to an hour or more for the next file. now if i go to he console and type /reconnect then it starts the dload agan and the second file fairly fast then it hits the next file and again slown to a snails pace and again if i type /reconnect in console it will dload the next file fast and so on untill i get the map and enter the game. well i really should not have to do that. i have tried to do everything i know to fix this to no avail. i loaded an update driver for the lan card modified settings et'c. help help help !!

thanks,

Katana

go to the xi site and download the downloader program and run it out of game to get all the maps that way you wont need to download before each map.

All good ideas. I will try and get the Crysis hardcore servers down loader up to date. Its been like forever since I have done that. Where I just built a new PC as well it may take some more time to get things ironed out as you, yourself is experiencing now. I'm right there with ya brother......GooD LucK!

The downloader still works? I tried to use it not long ago and I couldn't get the server list.

hey folks,

i think that there is no hope for this pos realtek eithernet card. i don't know what posessed asus to put the realtek card on this board. last asus board i had used an intel 1000 pro and it had great software emulation and it would download like gang busters. so i have decided to disable the realtek and install an intel eithernet card in one of the free pci express x1 slots. new egg sells the intel 1000 pro for $30.00 so thats what i will do. btw asus will get a nasty gram about the use of the realtek cards in their best boards.

thanks ya'll,

Katana

never had any issues with realtek lan chips , posible your using wrong driver for the lan chip

best open case an check the chip ID and tell us what MB you have for i'm confused ? using MB lan or a lan card (pci)

sorry , i thought i had said what os. i am using windows 7 (64 bit) and i have all windows security features turned off (i would never install them if microsoft would let me.) you have been very helpful. so all i need to do is d-load the bios update and install it ? btw after reading your last message i once again went to the net and found the very latest drivers for the eithernet card, uninstalled the old ones and reinstalled the new (it did not help) sorry to say. also thanks for looking up the update, i am currently downloading every new driver i can download. i will post the results after i install them.

thank you,

Katana

hi again ,

well i was able to install the new chipset drivers, the new lan card drivers but i can't figure how to install the bios update. the bios update utility says that the exe file needs to be run in dos. i opened the command promped and i can't remember how to even change a dir in dos. the last time i used dos was around 1996. the other file for the bios update is a .rom file. i am stumped with this one. help help.

thanks,

Katana

well guess what , i googled how to do the commands in dos to refresh my memory. the command at the command prompt is : cd c:\ then you will be at the c:\ root then type cd temp2 (in my case) then bupdater.exe and its supposed to run as it did but evidently asus made this file as a 32bit instead of 64bit as i need so it would not run. now i have to find a 64bit bios update. any ideas ?

thanks,

katana

Do you still have the old machine up and running where you could verify the problem is only on the new machine, and not just a new problem in general?

Also, if you have any plug in ethernet cards, just try another card. It's possible that drivers aren't the problem, and simply a defective onboard NIC.

And to be quite honest, if it makes you feel any better, my download speeds from the redirect within the game do the same thing from time to time, and right now is one of those times for me.

I usually can download through the game at well over 1mb, but the last few days, I can not get any better then 150kb, and it's not a problem on my end. Next time I have to download it may be well over 1mb again. It's the same for all computers I use.

Just throwin out some more possibilities.

never flash in windows with a dos box as you done above as you see why asus made it FAT install to force you into a pure dos boot, instead of windows inviroment

if adding a floppy drive or use a usb floppy to make boot disk to much trouble

PM me your email so i can send a usb boot software to boot from stick

hey folks,

good news, asus provides a software package in their driver disk that comes with the MB. on this disk is a utility called AI Suite II, on this utility there are a number of options which includes an updater and the updater will aid you to update cpu , bios et'c. so anyway i had already downloaded the bios update from asus . i ran the utility and followed the steps so at present the bios is updated to the latest version. now i will go into cod4 and find a server that has a map i do not have and see if my download problem is fixed. i will let you know.

thanks,

Katana

well i have done all that i can think of and so far no sucess. i updated the bios and followed the instructions as per ASUS. i updated the lan drivers also turning off all green features. it still has the same problems as when i started. really do not know what to do. i am going to write another email to ASUS and see what they have to say. strangely i am not the only one to be having this and similar problems. many are making many post on varing forums in the net complaining about this card. too bad. i will never know why ASUS did not just use the Intel lan cards as they have for so many years. any ideas please post.

thanks,

Katana
