I was just wondering if any one is using the pre-release of 8 and their thoughts on it,Best buy has it on sale for $69.00 right now for pre-purchase and if i'm going to get it now's the time to do it. I've just seen so many mixed reviews of it i'm in the air. There's been a lot of talk that gamer's should not have anything to do with it.Any reviews would help..Thanks!

W8 was designed for portable devices and adapted to desktops. It may do well on Windoze tablets but offers nothing new for desktop users. It is such a departure from the way we're accustomed to using desktop Windows operating systems that it's hardly worth installing on a desktop. Stick with W7.

I've been using the final release for a month now on my personal laptop. My employer has a MSDN membership so I was able top get it a while ago. The "Modern", or "Metro" tiled interface is not suitable for desktops or laptops. Enough has been said about that. The traditional Windows environment is excellent and is an improvement on the Windows 7 code. Microsoft did a great job of optimizing the heck out of it. I like the flat look and it seems faster. MS did some tricks to make boot-up time much faster. I use a free program called "Classic Shell" that boots the system into the Windows 7-like desktop and puts a start menu on the bottom left, so I now really like working in Windows 8. I can easily switch to a Metro screen if I want (I never do) or work with the applications that I'm used to on the desktop environment that I prefer. I haven't tried games on it yet, but I can't see any reason why they wouldn't run the same as or better than in Windows 7. I may load up COD-WAW on it sometime to try it out.

Sorry for being brief here - I'm just heading off to work. I can try and answer any other questions when I get back later.

hi warface,

i dare say that i will never use windows 8 unless they give us back our KDE Desktop as we are used to. bill gates and his crew will always find a way to fuck up a good thing. they overly complicated everything in win7 and said they made it better (Ha !!!) making things take more steps to do something does not make something better. taking steps out makes it better, i am with weezer, stick with win7.

see ya friend,

Katana
