steam and origin are good examples of processes you dont need starting up, untill you want to use them..

i dont want alot of programs starting up  and updating till i want them to,, and running in the back ground..

most people should know how to turn them off,, if not, do this

start

run

type          msconfig      in the box

hit ok

click the startup tab on top

you can see whats starting up and turn shit off, when you want to paly a steam or origin game , just have to click the game icon..then it will startup

extra shit starting up at bootup, just slows it down, and these programs are running while you are playing a regular game..  only let programs you want to startup, startup  ,,,jmo

Or simply uncheck "Run on startup" in the options of Steam and Origin. :P
I love Steam too, but it shouldn't slow down the start up process.
