Well, 24 hours since high winds knocked out the power. Seldom ever out this long, but rumors are Weds or Thurs before it's back! Whaaaaa! I want my power! However, can't complain too much since many worse off and even some deaths in that crap that went through the Midwest. Picked up a generator today (finally!), and got fridge and small freezer keeping/saving food. That alone paid for the generator. Some lights too. Could have had heat, but need special connector/cord. Luckily, temps not too low yet and stove burner keeping livable temp in house. Using lake water to flush, so nice perk since no well at the moment. So see you all back in game when power is restored here. Withdrawls!!!

OMG sorry to hear bud! I heard the storms were bad. I'm glad you and yours are safe. Imagine 100 or so years ago electricity didn't exist... So you are now in a time warp... Get out the kerosine lamps and candles! Stay safe!

Good move getting  generator. I got a tri fuel gas/propane/natural gas generator a couple of years back. Haven't had to use it for real yet. It was stories like yours that made me buy one. It's worth the money! Good luck and I hope you get power soon!

We spent an evening without power, during the summer, when there was a major fault at a local electricity sub-station.

It was, perhaps, the most boring experienced in decades!  None of the technology worked apart from a battery-powered

radio...  It took us back to the black-outs of the troubled 1960s and '70s when power station workers went on strike!

Lost power for three days during an Ice Storm. First night was fine, actually fun. We made popcorn for the kids and grandkids in the fireplace, cooked their dinner in there too. My teens hated the internet being out a lot more than I did.

Kept our phones charged in the cars.

You will be fine Laszlo as long as you have your fridge, freezer and computer running. Cold beer makes live more bearable as well ;-)

Yes, the irony is my wife (who complained the most) loves the TV shows like Little House on the Prairie, Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman - shows of the mid 1800's. She always says "Wouldn't it be great to live back then? Times were so simple." I say "Fuck No! No electricity! No flushing toilettes or running water! Can die if you cut yourself from infection! Fuck No!" We live in the best times ever! We continue to make life easier/comfortable all the time! However, losing power (and internet) does make us realize not to get too dependent on technology or we forget how to survive without them. Can you say SKYNET?!! LOL!
