is there any way you can isolate your drive and do read test. if you have or know know someone that has the adapters to do an HDD read test this could solve your issue to figuring out if this is a HDD issue or a Motherboard issue. to me this sounds like an HDD Board issue i have had many disk read error issues and usual is a result in a bad board.

OK my 2 cents

After 30 yrs...  ive had many hdds fail outright regardless of age.

I suggest googling the drive errors, (if u have them) assuring that you already had an idea of how full it became (supposed to leave 10% clear)

Have u contacted the maker...usually they have a 5yr warranty.  will aid in troubleshooting also.

For what its worth I really dislike seagate, have best luck with WD

u didnt say if it was a regular old spinning platter or a digital HDD  -  a SSD???

were there any noises?  or anything unusual?   like even perhaps new software????

Did u run any (have any) HDD utils?

more info may help

These days 3 years is the standard for a warranty unless you pay the extra bucks for a good one. I always recommend going for the better warranty, For me reliability for Seagate and WD have been pretty much the same. But it depends on doing your homework and making sure you pick up good models.

I usually end up getting referb drives from micro center. there cheaper and have almost the same warrantee. right now I’m running a 1T Samsung referb and I’ve had it for about 4 years now with no problems. I’ve had Seagate’s go out on me in less than 2 years and I have never liked there shotty performance. WD i believe is the best and I believe they have better material that doesn’t break down as easily

Also i have had this issue when changing out hardware. try rebooting a new OS and see if this works. i just went to my buddies house last week for an issue like this after he changed out his processor. i popped in a win 8.1 disk and it worked like a charm.

I had to RMA my WD drive last night as it failed with disk read errors. Not bad considering it was bought in 2011. If your thrashing the drive constantly though it's gonna fail.
