It was only a few weeks ago that I went through and changed all my pwds to the various websites I frequent because of stolen logins and now this.

http://money.cnn.com/2014/08/05/technology/security/russian-hackers-theft/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Pisses me off and now I am going to have to do another round of changes. I guess changing passwords every month will have to be the standard.

OMG Sammy .. and this coming form a programmer?

lol I got a good pasword trick for ya... use a variation of the same thing in all your passwords, but mix it up.

It helps as we get older to remember them!! lol.  like your dogs name your age in the front and your IQ at the back... would look something like this: 69Mutt180. :rofl:

The couple financial sites I go to already have the multiple pwd system with challenges so those are safe. I would think all major sites, like Amazon, would use this but they dont.

That would be ok for non-important stuff but should have two or more special characters.

having a password that is simply a permutation of easily mine-able information will always result in a weak password. Making passwords out of your DOB, address, favorite team, dog's name, etc is stupid stupid stupid stupid...

If you want a strong password that is easy to remember just pick at least 4 random words out of the dictionary and put them together.  (words should be at least 4 letters in length)

Example:    "omnisupergoatsmash"

Difficulty..    brute: 27 ^ 18             = flipping huge

                   smart: 200,000 ^ 4      = freak'in huge

Result:  best difficulty you can ask for... very easy to remember.

I highly doubt anyone would guess that someone in 1998 got their first bj at the age of 16. Well, not many. Also obviously something not easily forgotten.

And no that was just an example.

Does that apply to non-English base words? Things not found in an English dictionary?

I guess eventually we all all be moving to fingerprint scanners that store complex passwords. If if matches, send it.

Many system require caps, number or special characters if not all.

I like to do my passwords like this....

0mn!5up3rG0@tsM@sh

First letter of each word a cap, then

i = !

e = 3

b = 8

a = @

s = 5

p = 9

g = 6

h = #

having one number in there is fine for satisfying whatever system it is but as I posted before... Replacing all the letters with numbers doesn't increase it's brute-force-difficulty and it makes it very hard to remember and type out.
