Best Beer in America 7th year in a row

It just goes to show you how something that's pretty good can become great with the right marketing.

 

A small local brewery in my area has won the best beer in American for the 7th year in a row. Russian River Brewing Company makes very limited quantities once a year of their Pliney the Elder, and only sell it in a few  places including thier own pub in Santa Rosa California. It's a double IPA and is far from my favorite, but people line up for many hours to get a couple cases when it goes on sale. 

 

I don't know if it's mass hysteria or just the fact that most people can't get it very easily, so they hype it up and go nuts when they finally get a bottle to drink. It's kind of like Coors beer when I was a kid growing up, nobody in the midwest could get it and everybody wanted it. When I finally moved to California and drank some, it was like piss water. So every time I drove back to Ohio to visit family I'd load up my camper with as much as I could carry and sell a $10 case of beer for $100, and usually they would in-turn sell it for even more.

 

I think Apple uses the same marketing strategy.

I love your fixation with moose piss and dildos TBB. I am not much of a beer drinker, but my favorite beers are Sapporo, Stella Artois and Blue Moon. I know as a fact that they drink moose piss in Alberta (gotta ask Pete), but not here in tropical Canada (British Columbia).  Oh, and before I forget , on a side note, FU TBB haha

Take it from me, Someone who has Brewed 100 Batches of all types of Brews, You really have to work hard to make a beer as bad as Corona....

I can remember my dad loading cases of Coors into our station wagon and hauling it back to North Carolina and trading it for Strohs . . . not sure who got the short end of the stick there . . . .  .when I stole a few cans to do my own taste test my dad wasn't too pleased and punishment was mowing my grandmas 1 acre backyard with a push mower.

Good thing he never found out about the jar of corn liquor . . .  . .

I guess when it comes to beer everyone has there own tastes and personally I can't drink some of that special dark stuff or the "off the wall"special beers. There will always be someone that will tell you that the beer you like is "nasty"  . . . .. . .  .for me nothing fancy and make sure its cold enough to hurt your teeth.

I'll second that Sparty. Taste is relevant only to the taster. I've brewed a lot myself, also tried many draughts that were proclaimed wonderful by critics. Some were nice, some over-hyped. All in your own perception. Nothing tastes better than a recipe you worked up yourself, and your friends clean you out of. We're blessed by having Wisconsin close by, and the Beer & Cheese Festival in Madison is a marvelous, drunken, event with 100+ vendors supplying all that brewers have to offer.

Exactly Leadfinger, I've had German, English and some Scandanavian  wobbly pops  that taste like they've  gone through the digestive tract already, and any critic will tell you that they are supreme examples of fine brewing. Shitheads!
