I'd like to start home brewing but frankly, literally have no idea where to start. I'm a fan of spirits - whiskey, schnapps, vodka etc. Anyone got any clue what to do as YouTube has conflicting advice, as does the net. Some say it's safe to make your own spirits, others say it's dangerous...so it's a quagmire. Thanks in advance. Awards

Have never done it but I do know that if you are distilling moonshine you need to throw out the first quart or so because it is full of methanol and can be dangerous to your health. Awards

That said, different states/regions have their own laws on what can actually be brewed. About the best thing I can recommend is to make sure it is legal, then stop at your local homebrew shop. They tend to have books/equipiment for brewing spirits (if legal). My local brewshop sells distillers and ingredients for spirit brewing. Good luck! Moonpie Awards

Thanks for the advice regarding the methanol however. Good to know. Awards

It looks like you get better shine when you add have either apples or jalapeno peppers to make your mash. I remember the 'shiners mentioning something about being careful about explosions, or something like that. Ayaq Awards
