I dont remember if I posted this. I recall something but dunno.

Anyways, my PC is currently located in another room where it is not workable to get an ethernet cord from the cable/modem. So currently using one of those wireless-n thumb drives. Which works but it sucks. Seems unreliable. Anyone ever use a PCI wireless card for a pc? Are they reliable and do not drop connections or lag?

I have a couple of routers laying around and I tried to get one to work as a bridge or something like that. Couldnt get it to. Since others have done it I assume that just means I didnt do it right. However I also read somewhere that doing it this way would cut the effective wireless speed in 1/2.

Yea that is what it says to do for a wired connection. But wireless? Am I supposed to set it up first with a wired connection and then change it?

I have one of these in my little Media PC.Got it on sale for $12 on black friday. It's really good for how cheap it is.https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704133&ignorebbr=1

Router is way to far away to run a wire.Works good out of the box as long as you uninstall the wireless utility software that comes with it and just use the driver. The wireless utility tends to stop responding from time to time.

I stream 4+ gb movies and TV shows through it and it's actually pretty darn fast for wireless.Don't use the 5ghz connection though. It's kinda unstable.Doesn't drop connection but 5ghz wireless is known for picking up   interference from those small digital TV satellite systems like DirectTV and Dish Network. My whole neighborhood is loaded with those little dishes so I can't use the 5ghz frequency. All it does is make the speed and range waver a bit.But It's really noticeable when streaming movies or transferring large files.

Its only maybe 20 feet away same level in a house. Mostly I was just trying to use a second router instead of having to buy a new card or drills holes.

I have had one of these laying around collecting dust  http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth.html it came out of a lenovo laptop board 876 Mbs wifi with Bluetooth 4.0 built in. I recently ordered one of these https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815256026  to run it in a pcie slot to free up a USB 3.0 port. I'll let you how it works, the adapter shows up tomorrow.

Typically usb wireless adapters work fairly well  I use TP-link or Tenda and never have problems with them. If yours seems to drop connection it's probably either gone bad or the drivers don't like your version of windows, one thing you can try is a usb port extender to move it away from the motherboard socket or buy one that uses an extension  cable.

The TP link n150 high gain is an excellent unit for under $15 US  have used it for years on windows 7,8 & 10 It's my utility adapter I use for new builds getting updates/drivers installed https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16833704045

For the range you have this Tenda adapter would work just as well for under $8 US. I have had one of these in a daily use computer for over 2 years now and never had a problem with it Windows 7 or 10 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6J32WD5191&cm_re=tenda-_-9SIA6J32WD5191-_-Product

I purchased both at my local Micro Center http://www.microcenter.com/
