I have yet to see a convincing argument that minimum wage should *not* have kept up with inflation.

Somewhere there must be a balance between a livable earnings and a wage that won't handicap small business owners.

Many large business I don't give a shit about. When I hear about excessive bonuses and profits... Well they can suck it.

There is also a minimum wage in the UK: https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates

However, zero hours contracts are commonplace and the combination of these with low pay means

people cannot plan their finances.

Since when is minimum wage designed for "Head of Households"? The real question is what happen to being able to graduate from High School and go to work for a factory or warehouse making 3,4 or 5 times the minimum wage?? Why are Head of Households working at McDonalds??

If raising the minimum wage really work lets raise it to 1,000,000 dollars a hour!

johnny

So you're telling me that as head of the Household I shouldn't be working at McDonalds?

You mean I can't pay child support for my 15 kids with 5 different women on that type of salary?

Who'da thunk it?

This is Canada's minimum wage...when it hits $15.00 an hour there are going to be loss of employment, small businesses closing, etc. Management positions are going to be expecting an increase to $17.00 plus per hour. It is going to raise the cost of living. It is going to cause a lot of bad issues.

My first job was at a car wash at age 16 in 1973. It paid  about $1.60/hour which was minimum wage in Maryland at the time. The job wasn't worth more than that as a starting wage. It was a very low skilled job for young people to make a couple of bucks after school & on weekends. Period. The car wash could never have sustained paying employees enough money to live on. it would have gone out of business.

when my dad was raising 6 kids- his job in tool and die gave him great insurance/dental/401k/bonuses at christmas and everyone was happy and prospered-my mom never had to work she stayed home to raise the kids  ..Companies used to invest in there people/happy employees=successful  company. Now large companies are making people work 38 hours with no benifits is bullshit and causes poverty-medical debt is ridiculous/they take out over $100 from your check per week then  you have  a $4000. deductible ontop of that

maybe share some of that profit with the people that help you make the profit like company's like to in the old days.now everyone is so fkn greedy.
