It makes me laugh/sigh, 3rd, that we get a few dismal flakes here that amount to a normal British winter and the whole country stops! I have relatives in New York State who regularly shovel feet of snow every year and it isn't worth a mention. Even our Scandinavian neighbours manage to keep going with much more than we get - they are closer to Russia after all! I look back to the early 1960s here when we did have winters that were severe - all the water pipes in the house froze and we didn't even have a gas supply as the old coal gas passed through a water reservoir that froze up too - and recall that I was out in those conditions...in shorts!!! We are now waiting for the snowfall in the north to come south; we will then see if the authorities have learnt the "lessons" of last year i.e. if you don't put grit and salt on the roads, everyone's cars slide all over the place...

ph4nt0m You've got more chance of Biting the back of your own neck than Activision NOT charging for extra's on BlackOps, They already have the ideal content delivery system in Steam which is why i think they chose to release through steam and to only allow a single provider to run dedi servers, they have fooled the PC community into staying with them after the shitstorm that was MW2 by giving us what we wanted, but also retaining most of the control over what we can and cant do with the game, And yes, as they say, Multiplayer will always be free, but if you want extra's for a fee then they will sell them to you, I'm with PrimalFear on this. There is no evidence whatsoever that Activision intends to charge for any element of MP. Companies use Steam because that binds a single licence number to a single player - it is an anti-piracy measure (so don't think you can sell your copy on - you cannot as it will only ever work with the registered Steam name). IIRC additional maps were made available for sale to console owners in the past.

billyblade not that it matters, i was stoked to hear about this game, then found out my comp wont run it. From the mixed reviews sounds to me like cod4 is the juggernaut that cant be beat, in spite of the number of tweaks it took to get to the stage its in. At least it is in that stage NOW, not to mention the amount of modding that can, and has, taken place. Hope it all works out for all you idiots who have blackops, but if it doesnt, at least there's always the righteous cod4 to fall back on. Us lamos with store bought systems will see ya there.... If the desire is there and your budget would stretch to it, even a PC bought in a store can be upgraded (with some exceptions...). I've ended up with some real "Frankenstein's monsters" over the years as I have replaced bits and pieces on such machines. I once went to the PC superstore to buy a new power supply and ended up walking out with a new case, mobo and RAM too... There's so much information available online (and advice isn't short on these forums on technical matters) that what was once the preserve of the geek or techy is achievable by anyone with a screwdriver and a little time.

I've registered over at www.callofduty.com which is the official Activison site. Lots of people suffering the identical problem to mine with the constant freezing up of this game and it is affecting ATI and Nvidia users. There's no help possible beyond the release of a patch to fix the game. Lots of bad feeling about - can't see them making another 400 million in 5 days with their next effort! A lot of people have been turned off CoD.
