You need 'Wine' to emulate Windows. Only way to get things like DirectX. The only cod4 you can run under Linux by itself is a server.

Typically the 999 at consistent events mean script errors or some kind of undefined variable causing a bad loop. Could even be a bad model if its custom. Which in turn causes the game to write huge amounts of data to the console log within a few seconds. Sometimes megabytes. If its map specific, maybe something in a path node that is missing? I dont know cod5 or dogs but I assume there are a lot of them so they can navigate the map like in UT. Next time it happens save the console log then zip it up to so people can check it out.

Of course also depends whether or not the slots will take 8gb each. My guess, few people truly need 16 except for various kinds of software developers or video editing and the like. There are a couple things where I could benefit from 16 but my mb will only accept 8. Yup its a few years old now.

Yup stick to AMD for keeping a budget down. Doesnt mean they are in any way bad products. However for video cards these days there probably isnt that much real difference, performance-wise, for similar class of cards and price. Unless you are one of those performance geeks where even a 2-3 increase in frame rate makes a difference. Kind like FLAC. With the right music it is a world of difference compared to all of the compressed formats. If the source material is any good. Most isnt.
