Reline Server

@Merlin007 Three things: We tried to go to the Redline server this evening when DM3 hung. Looks like most people were having problems getting in. The map was Alcatraz, I was getting DX9 errors and crashing on the splash screen of the map. Could you please restore the QPort timeout on DM3 to its lowest value so we can get in after a game crash faster? The Redline server was at least clearing the QPort session quickly. Maybe compare its setting to the one on DM3. DM3 takes forever after the game crashes on your computer to let you past the duplicate QPort error. It doesn't have to take that long. Way too many map rotations on DM3 are causing the server to hang these days. I see Opto is now a mod and I think someone else showed up with mod taqs too the other day, but I don't remember who that was atm. But tonight, there was no one there to save us, and the Redline server let us down. Last night Opto was there, but didn't have the training to restart the server. That should be training task #1 for a new mod. Last night we went over to the Sniper server and had fun. Thanks. -
@Elvis9 I think it depends on when you bought it. Early on, I believe the Steam version would allow the creation of an online profile. Several people in the servers today are apparently playing on their Steam edition of COD5. A couple of years ago when I tried, I could not and the issue was well known back then. It just didn't work for multiplayer. You could play the single-player campaign just fine, but not multiplayer online. I think it might have been traced back to the Activision key validation servers not allowing it, or not allowing the creation of a new online profile. If they've changed that these days, that would be great.

The Steam version of COD5 will not work in multiplayer. It will tell you to create an online profile and then it will just error out or some such. I found this back when I came back to COD5 a couple of years ago. I couldn't find my CD/key, so I purchased the game on Steam and figured all would be okay. No. Did not work. Googled. Yup, it's a known thing. Contacted Steam for a refund on the basis that I wanted to play online and the game is, for whatever reason, unable to do that. A refund was issued. Thankfully I found my CD key, but not the CD itself. @Merlin007, you may recall sending me an iso of the COD5 disk. I installed from that iso, entered my valid CD Key, and (after installing all the updates) was back up and running. If you do not at least have your original CD Key, I don't know how to get you around this, Dean. I was lucky enough to have located my Key. I have it stored in my password manager, along with many other activation keys, in a "secure note".

You seemed to be suggesting that it is impractical to provide an upload link on the website to upload COD demo files. I simply corrected you. If I misunderstood your meaning, I apologize. -

I see Frags in the DM3 server actively playing regularly during evening peak. He's a great admin, and is fun to play against. -

Actually, it's entirely practical. I've implemented uploaders for the use of artists to submit music to my internet radio stations when they were on the air. What's probably not practical is expecting Duc to take on yet another task. -

Early on in my Admin career here, Johnny and I would spend a couple of hours each week working on the COD5 rotation change together. It was always the best part of my week, and never short on laughter. He was taken too fast and too soon, but I guess Heaven needed him, too, so off he went. I miss him. I hope Char is doing okay. -

Thanks for the reply, Merlin, and for keeping an eye on things. My internet isn't the best, living out of a van and all, but I'll try switching over to my house's WiFi next time I see Timeouts on HLSW just to check if that clears things up. I won't have the house WiFi available much longer, so we'll see if I can even catch it. As of the time I'm writing this, HLSW this morning is showing all servers looking normal. But here's the thing: With the Sniper server on 149.56.xxx.xxx and all the rest on 74.91.xxx.xxx, I absolutely do believe it's a server/host issue when the three on the latter go Timeout, while the former looks and acts normal. I don't see this as an HLSW issue at all. Anyway, I don't need to update my HLSW since it's working fine. I can go into the Sniper server without a problem at all. For that matter, I can go into all 4 servers as long as HLSW doesn't show them in Timeout. If you're saying that the Sniper server should also be found on the 74.91.xxx.xxx IP then why is there a Sniper server responding at 149.91.xxx.xxx? The map before Balystock was that snowy map that has a grave yard back in one corner, and buildings people like to snipe out of the windows from, and roofs you can get up on, but I don't remember its name. Sorry. I know that even that information isn't necessarily relevant since the server does player size based rotations. Day before last, I think we may have been coming out of another map when it borked out. Have a good day.

2nd day in a row that DM3 has crashed late afternoon switching to map Balystock. And why is it that HLSW has frequently been showing our servers offline when, in fact, they aren't? I prefer to check the servers and enter through HLSW when I find there are people in there playing. Today, all servers but the Sniper server are showing "Timeout" yet (before DM3 crashed again), I could get into the game through the game itself just fine. The Sniper server appears to be at a completely different IP, so I can only suspect it's a server configuration issue on 74.91.xxx.xxx. Is anyone putting in support tickets with this host and getting some support from them?

What's Up With DM3?

Oops, I mistakenly ghosted this thread It was better, although I know there's a whole new rotation in by now. Did you figure out the culprit map? There was speculation that it was the map after those I mentioned that were actually causing the hang. -
