My 1st bike was a yamaha 750.  All the power anyone would need and the size would be about right for you I believe.  My son was 13 when this picture was taken.  You should definately shop around before buying - I did and got this bike for less than $2000.00.  Good luck with your shopping and PLEASE be damn carefull learning to ride.

My first bike was a Kawasaki KZ 400.  Back in the 70's you could buy a decent smaller street bike that was both easy to learn on and affordable.  I really don't understand why this class of motorcycle faded away.  They were ideal for women to ride as well due to their relatively  light weight.

My first bike was a Yamaha Maxim X 750.  Very nice ride and good power especially for a first bike and was better on insurance than a 1000 or higher.  Happy bike hunting.

Hate to sound pussified but I actually drive a Honda SH150 scooter.  Top speed is only about 72 mph but thats fast enough for me.  Get about 80 mpg city and 100 on hwy.  Real quick for a scooter and last.  Honda. So if your confident in your manhood.  This bike is the way to go.  Honda makes a 700 cc but that one will be 13 grand.

My first bike was a Honda XL125S. Learned to hillclimb, slide & crash in the dirt before I ever set wheels on pavement. That weak little bike taught me a lot about riding. Learned to ride on the street w/a Kawasaki KZ650 & a 500 H1 triple. Since then I've had a shit load of Triumphs, BSA's, Norton's, Ducati's, Shovelheads, Pans, Evo's, and BMW's. Still ride a K100 BMW as a daily, w/100,000miles on the odometer. The only serious injury was a broken collarbone, but I still keep my eyes peeled for morons that can't seem to see motorcycles. It's a life long obsession, just try to make it a long one.
