I am looking for a new graphics card with at least 2GB of memory and was wondering which one I should get. Don't really want to spend more than $200...

Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 OC 820MHZ 2GB 5.0 GBPS GDDR5

XFX Radeon HD 6950 800 MHZ 2GB 5.0GHZ DDR5

or

Galaxy GeForce GTX 560 GC 850Mhz 2048MB 4GHz DDR5

Galaxy GeForce GTX 550 Ti GC 900MHZ 2GB DDR5 3.9GHZ DDR5

I would appreciate your feedback

Thanks!

Thanks Bart and Markoff, I think I will be getting the Radeon 6950, just wondering if the Galaxy GeForce GTX 560 GC 850Mhz 2048MB 4GHz DDR5 is as fast or a comparable card.

I am running the XFX 6950 as well. Solid card for the money that should keep up for a while.

Why do you insist on a 2GB card? Memory is only useful if you play at very high resolutions, the processing speed of the GPU is the most important feature on a video card hands down. For most folks and most games a 1GB card is sufficient.

The 6950 is an excellent card but about $50 more than the 6870 and only a few fps faster. I picked up my 6870 for $150 and it runs everything I throw at it with ease. I still think it's the best bang/buck card out there today.

Yes you're right! But maybe he's running with a 2560x1440 or more.

What's your screen Joe?

xtreme: I usually buy a new video card every 2 years and then sell them, so I just sold my XFX Radeon HD 6790 for $90 and bought a EVGA GeForce GTX 560 ti fermi with 2 GB of memory. I was about $45 cheaper than the XFX Radeon 6950. Both cards seem to be pretty good and the specs comparable. My CPU is an AMD quad core and I have 16GB of memory.

exe: I have an LG 23" LED backlit and don't plan to upgrade in the near future as this is the size of monitor I like for gaming. So I am running my games at 1920 x 1080. Not sure if I could go any higher with COD2, COD4, and COD5 unless I get a bigger monitor that is. Gotta invest in technology when you have nasty enemies such as the pimp, ferzulo, dean, larsin, ratcamper etc. :-)

Will see how it goes, I have been pretty unlucky with my gaming keyboards and headsets so far. I love the razer lycosa but have to do a RMA and get a new one every six months or so. Thank you guys for your feedback!!!

Ok, so 1gb memory seems to be enough but you do what you want your choice ^^

No need to invest in technology for those guys... Just skills and a good uav... Guess Shooter sells it on another topic... :hrhr:

Both companies make great cards atm so you could do well going either way ---

As you may Know I recently built a new machine to play the latest games ---

I went with an AmD /ATI build (see my post ---"time to upgrade again " for components ---

every game I throw at the black edition 7870 --it laughs at on max settings and the card has never gone over 40 C

Bf3 runs on ultra (all settings maxed ) average of 120 -140 fps

Looking forward to see what it can do on --Guildwars 2 with large (100 + people ) clan wars on screen at once !!!

Look for a price drop on these cards in June as ATI pushes their 7970 cards the 7870's will drop considerably ---with minor overclocking they blow away most of the 7970 's atm

Good reviews on toms hardware and 3d guru for them .

Every two years is a good upgrade cycle to follow. I try to go about 3 years unless an amazing deal pops up. I'm old and my games are usually pretty old, hell, I still frag on the COD2 server with XI folks. When I get newer games I tend to not run crazy resolutions because for me it's all about FPS and eye candy. Usually my older gen cards will run the latest gen games perfectly fine at good frame rates, nice eye candy but at lower res on my 22" LCD.
