I am sure we have all had lousy jobs at some point in our lives. My worst two were:

-Cleaning fish at a fish plant. I only lasted 20 minutes.

-Kitchen helper for a large catering company. I was asked, on my very first shift, to power wash a flattop grill with an industrial pressure washer. I didn’t know how to use it and didn’t bother asking. I managed to get it started but the hose went nuts and I knocked down the paper hats of a few chefs standing right next to me and sprayed everything and everyone but the flattop grill. True (and embarrassing) story. :-)

When I was 15 my first job was going to be bussing tables at a restaurant in a state forest lodge near my home in southern Ohio. The same weekend I was to start the job was a class trip to Lake Erie out to the islands for 2 nights. My new boss said that I had to start on the day we left on the trip, so I relunctantly stayed home from the trip. I showed up for work and my new boss said that they didn't need me after all. I wanted so badly to punch the guy out, but I just sucked it up , quit and moved on.

No bad or gross jobs really. I once got fired from a butcher shop job in high school for filling up a latex glove with meat scraps and blood then tucking it up my sleeve and cutting the fingers off with a meat cleaver in front of customers. It was worth it. The look on their faces was priceless. :smoke:

I used to work at a circuit board manufacturing company. The board would be assembled in layers with fiberglass between them. My job was to put them in vacuum sealed steel boxes and place those boxes in an oven. The top rows of the oven were so high you had to get on a step ladder to load them, and the boxes weighed around 80 pounds. Once done, then you had to remove the super hot boxes (the heat of the ovens basically melted the fiberglass to bond the layers together). The boards would have a jagged melted fiber glass edge, so then you had to take them to this other room where there was a diamond bladed circuit saw to cut off all the jagged edges, and a beveling tool to bevel the edges. The room itself was about 5'x8' with no ventilation. You would come out of it covered head to toe in fiberglass dust. We were given dust masks thankfully, but that didn't help too much. After that, the boards had to be de-oxidized. So you would load them in these wire racks, and wheel them on a cart into this chemical room where you bathed them in open vats of different strengths of acid - sulfuric and hydrochloric. You were given a pair of rubber gloves for this task. That's it.

So... I would come home from work covered in fiber glass dust. God knows how much of that shit I inhaled. And once I washed my clothes, which needed to be done after every shift, all the fresh new holes would show up where acid got on them. I had that job for about 6 months. Probably went through a dozen pairs of jeans and 4 pairs of shoes. Seemed like itched for 2 years after.

I worked 3 12 hour shifts per week with a 4 day weekend so it worked well with my 2nd job - which was working at a paintball field as a site manager running games, etc. I made a whopping $8.40/hr at the job (in 1992). I ended up quitting not because of the OSHA-nightmare working conditions, but because I had this asshole for a boss that acted like that job was the only thing I would ever be able to accomplish in life. I'd sure like to pay him a visit now. Fucker. The only good thing about it was that at least I got to listen to Twins games while working, and I worked basically alone so no one bugged me.

25 Years ago, I Was Fired for the only time in my life from any job. I was a Draftsman, Doing Floor plans for a Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Firm.

I Was Unemployed for 2 days when a friend of the family asked if I Wanted to work as a Floor Sanding Helper. Welp, I Said Yes, & found myself the next day Sanding 100 Years Old Douglas Fir Flooring Coated In Tar with a 12 Grit Sandpaper on a 1950 Machine with Bicycle Handles That Tossed me into the wall every once in a while. After Being Completely Covered In Pine Sap & Sawdust In 95 Degree Humid Weather while sanding for 10 hours, I Got To Coat The Floor With Moisture Cure Polyurethane. This Product Smelled So Bad It Would Make You Puke In 10 Seconds Without A Respirator On. All This For $7 an Hour. I Asked My Boss "Is It Like This Every Day?" He Laughed & Begged Me Not To Quit. Gave Me A $3 an hour Raise & 4 Or 5 Ice Cold Becks Beers.

25 Years Later, Still Sanding & Still Hating IT!

Rumpke Recycling Plant. We sorted through everyones garbage to get the recyclables (aluminum cans, plastic bottles etc..) and we would get dead animals, rotten, maggot covered food, dirty diapers, used dirty magazines, all that nasty stuff! We found cash money sometimes too tho LOL :rambo::smoke:;) Oh and I was at that job for a year for $7.35/hr

Great story Sparty. I hope you're making more than $10 an hour after 25 years. :hrhr:

It's funny how we start jobs that we don't really like but end up doing them for years or decades because nothing better comes along. I went to work for my dad at age 23 in the insurance business, and swore after a year of that I would not spend the rest of my life sitting behind a desk, I hated it. Well, I finally got out of it almost 30 years later and doing what I love. I made good money and wound up owning the company, but I got lazy & fat and wish I had been doing something more exciting all of those years.

tree work, laboror.....you drag the brush to the chipper, sounds easy right? haha jokes on you. you get poked, scratched, bugs, lots of bugs all kinds, snakes (you wouldn't believe how many snakes in trees), thorns, then when you get it to the chipper and its teeth grab hold of it, it can and will, yank, tear, smash, rip, smack the shit out of you as it goes in. too make my experience worse i was working with my brother in-law who could and would cut in a day what it took 3 men to do. he was a beast, no shit. this guy had no fear, he won trophy's at tree climbing events regularly and i was his labor. he would drop a tree, cut it up and say "there you go, i don't get paid to pick shit up". i lasted 3 months begging for another laboror the whole time. never happend and i walked away. ohhhh i forgot about the shit coming down at you, lol wood bounces when it hits.
