OMG thats going to cost her big time. Over 5k just for the classes she is required to take here now a days. Let a lone the time incarcerated. That is a stupid moronic mistake and for what? A little fun she could have had without the alcohol? Wow! I hope she has learned her lesson because her insurance will go sky high now and she will probably drive without a license or insurance as most offenders do and put the rest of us at risk in a totally different way! Bro I say you have every right to vent all you damned well want to!

Good call. Why is a 23 year old still living at home?! I love my parents, but my head would explode it I had to live with them for an extended period of time. There can only be one bull-headed person in the house at one time... and that's me.

There is no winner on either side in something like this.

One can only hope the right choices are made and lessons are learned.

No easy task. :no

I personally am in favor of the law and punishments being severe for a DUI. About 8 years ago I received one in my small country county. They made an example out of me: 1 year probation and had to check in and pay a fine once a month, 3 days in jail, 50 AA meetings, drug/alcohol awareness school (very expensive), 50 hours community service, 5 years SR22 insurance (in addition to regular insurance, monthly cost for vehicle insurance was about $300), 1 year restricted license, not allowed to enter a bar or club serving alcohol, 11pm curfew....... and lots more restrictions outlined in my probation.

While this was the most extreme 1st offense sentencing I am aware of I am more than grateful to have received it. When I chose to drink and drive that night I knew I had no business driving and knew the consequences of my actions. Had I not been charged or had been just given a "slap on the wrist" I probably would still be drinking and driving or could have had much worse consequences like injuring or killing someone.

As annoying as it is to be "caught" I am very much in favor of making each DUI recipient have such a miserable experience they never drink and drive again!
