HAving noticed the"where are you from" post and all the responses, i thought i'd inquire as to what folks do to get by and make life happen. I myself work in the shipping department of the Jimmy Dean factory. We make the sausage croissants and biscuits and such. I drive a 5 high forklift in the freezer...very cold, stays between 0 and 10 degrees, but a living these days

Let's see...I work for a large Hospital System and have done lots of different thing.  Right now I am working on selling and deploying an Electronic Medical Record system to our physicians.  Basically, I drive all over the Houston area and present the system to them and act as a subject matter expert for any questions they have about our system, other systems and how government reform and economic stimulus will affect them.  I know, sounds pretty exciting, right!?

I saw a commercial for TruckMaster the other day......I think I may give them a call.

Me and my grandson love those Jimmy Dean sausage biscuit things, ride on billy.  I retired about three years ago.  I worked in electrical construction for forty years IBEW member.  Nukes, hydro plants, high rises, hospitals, alot of prisons and jails, California's main industry.  I live in North East California, very rural aint much here,  about sixty miles from Reno NV.   I play golf and drink beer in the summer,  look for gold with my oldest grandson and spend way to much time playing cod4.  My wife works in medical field and we have been married for a loooong time.  That is the short skinny on Sadesky.

Anyone from Newyork here?  Well I work in a call center for Timewarner Cable Newyork, love when angry Newyorkers call in bitching about their bill, makes me laugh.  We also do some work for Comcast / Charter.   As a matter of fact just yesterday (they told us) our company was bought out by iPacesetters, should finalize June 1st.  New requirements and such, we'll see how that goes.

I own my own semi and haul big cement power poles throughout Florida. The biggest one I have hauled so far was 130 ft long and weighed 81 thousand pounds. If I can get it to work right I will post a picture of my truck with one of the lighter poles below.

I was a general contractor for 20 years we built metal buildings from 200 SF to 10,000 SF. We did 3 million SF of metal roofing and siding also. Averaged about 30 -50 jobs per years. I built 6 homes but I couldn't compete with the big guys.

Until last year when I woke up in the hospital and they told me I may not live through the night. That happened twice. Now I am on SSI and can't do a lot of physical work. My lungs are shot and may need a transplant. But I am showing improvement.

Our mighty government said I am only entitled to $1200 per month, after working over 35 years. There are people on disability that have never worked and make more than me. I could never live long enough to get back what I paid in. At least everything I own is paid for except my house. My wife is disabled too and they told me she didn't work enough to pay in anything so she is not entitled to disability. What a crock of shit. It will be a tough future.

I really want to thank everybody at XI for their support. XI means a lot to me and a lot of you are almost like family. I wish I could donate money but right now it is impossible. THANK YOU

I'm a Lead Electrical Engineer for an Automotive Supplier and been there 32 years (all of my adult life). Supply everything from simple conveyors to industrial washers and test and asembly equipment. We are mainly in Engine and Transmission plants all over the world. German company that also has big division of auto painting - in paint plants, of course). We're right across from CrackXI's "mother ship", the Chrysler Tech Center in lovely Auburn Hills, Michigan (home of the Detroit Pistons). Ya, Michigan's been hurting for some time, but some light coming. Thanks to government GM bailout, most of our work for next few years is with them. Yeah....and they paid back loan early!! But it's SLOOOWW in coming and will likely never be the same. Also in Ford, Chrylser, Cummins, Caterpillar plants. Anyone that makes an engine.

Side note: I work with NicktheGrip>XI<, who also is a Lead Electrical Engineer/Manager.

I work in a medium sized hospital (275 beds) as an Operating Engineer.  Basically it's building maintenance along with HVAC operations / boiler operations.  It's so diverse that it's almost like having a different job each day.  There is a standard routine we do,  but different stuff breaks each day.  One day I'm a plumber,  the next I'm an electrician.  It pays the bills and it's not my dream job,  but I can't complain.  Just thankful I have a job right now.
