Ah now we're getting there, remember what I said earlier about Ram, firstly find out the make and spec of the mremory hopefully its all the same then :-

1/. Get your motherboard manual and find out if it accepts that memory spec i.e. size, speed and frequency

2/. There will be a bit in the manual that tells you what is accepted in each memory slot, make sure you know the slot numbers from the diagram

3/. It will tell you what the settings should be in the bios, hopefully auto is selected.

4/. It may be that your previous memory was configured dual channel and these sticks won't work dual channel, especially for two pairs

Now this is a fairly complicated subject and some level of expertise is needed but not beyond anyone who treads carefully, for now only use two MATCHING sticks of memory in the slots recommended in the manual, come back after you've done this, take two sticks out. Memory gives numerous random problems and others will nod their heads when I say this, it is possible that two motherboards the same one will accept, one will reject I've had it happen a couple of times.

4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 2133(O.C.)/1866*/1600/1333/1066 MHz ECC, Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

Dual Channel Memory Architecture

** Refer to www.asus.com for the Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists).

* Due to OS limitation, when installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows® 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Install a 64-bit Windows® OS when you want to install 4GB or more memory on the motherboard.

* Due to CPU spec., AMD 100 series CPUs support up to DDR3 1066MHz. With ASUS design, this motherboard can support up to DDR3 1333MHz.

If the ram turns out to not be the issue....

If you are having the issue and your son isnt playing the same games, its not the internet connection.

You need to check your ethernet port on your PC if you are wired. If you are playing on wireless, well thats likely the issue.

You also may want to check out the vid card.

If you have a spare ethernet card i would install it and try playing from that connection, same goes for the vid card if you have a working spare.

I don't have any spares of anything...  I'll look at the ram this afternoon and see what the specs on it are.  Can't remember...

After sitting down this morning and talking with my son while he's home for a snow day... it's most definitely our Internet! He had never told me before that he has the same issues as me!! So.. time to call my ISP and get this shit figured out ASAP!!!

I talk with him every day, he just never mentioned to me about having these issues... I asked him all the time "How's the game running?" and he tells me they are working fine...  so it was news to me

Video card overheating? Was probably mentioned earlier but check the intakes and outtakes. If you want, might also open it up (assuming no warranty) and check to see if the heatsink has a carpet of dust on it. Just be careful to do it someplace where you wont lose screws.

No overheating...  I run MSI Afterburner and turn the fan speed up to 100% and I run cool.  Processor is liquid cooled, so no overheating there.    I blow the dust out of my computer every other week to keep it clean...    So no dust in the machine at all.

The RAM was recently changed to some used RAM...  so I have a feeling that it's the culprit...  I just got 2 new jobs (THANK GOD!!) But it will be a LONG while before I can afford RAM...  I'm so far behind on my bills, it will take me close to a year to get caught back up

Opened up my case....

looked up the specs on my MoBo... it reads "up tp 32gb DDR3 1800 Mhz Memory"

The RAM I have is Patriot DDR3 1600Mhz Memory...  2 pairs of 4gb sticks, not the exact same type though...

I'm techtarded when it comes to RAM... is THIS is what's causing my issues?!?!?!?!?!

HI LH,

Thought we had this sorted but looks like we didn't, Ram is a highly likely source of the problem as I mentioned in earlier posts, so heres what to do initially before we look at anything in the bios :-

First look at your motherboard manual and find out what and how much each slot takes, it is highly likely initially that the board was set up as dual channel in two slots and now you ain't running it

Second presuming each slot takes up to 4gb (which is likely) find out which are the 2 main slots (i.e. if you only had two sticks - manual should state this )  and pull the memory from the others, if the problem is because of running 4 slots then it should run ok, if still choppy swap out memory sticks one by one to see if you have a bad one.

Let me know as after this it gets a little trickier

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN EARTHING STRAP ALWAYS EARTH YOURSELF BEFORE TOUCHING RAM, i.e. a house radiator or metal pipe to ground

Thanks for all the help Rob!

Here's what my manual states:

"4 x DIMMs, Max. 32GB, DDR3 2133 (O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz, ECC, Non-ECC, unbuffered memory"

"The maximum 32GB memory capacity can be supported with 8GN or above DIMMs, ASUS will update the memory QVL once the DIMMs are available on the market"

"Due to CPU space, AMD 100 Series CPUs support up to DDR3 1066MHz.  With ASUS design, this motherboard can support up to DDR3 1333MHz"

There is some more about visiting ASUS website and such and something about Windows 32 bit, but I'm running a 64 bit version...

OK it must be listed somewhere which slots you use with only two sticks, it would probably be easier for you to tell me the exact motherboard and version then I'll look it up, should have thought of that, tell me what your video card is too

OK, now place/view your motherboard so the memory slots are in the upper right hand corner, left to right the slots are labelled A!, A2, B1 & B2

It will only work in the following configuration :-

1 memory module - must be in A2 ONLY

2 modules - one in A2 and one in B2 ONLY

4 modules in all four

Your modules may not be made up in 500mb blocks, i.e. for 4gb you should not have 8 squares

Now what I want you to do is ONLY LEAVE the modules in A2 & B2, i.e. take A1 & B1 out and see how it runs

You said some of them were different, use two the same

That's the way I have it set up...  I will take some of it out (which will drop me to 8Gb) and swap back and forth... the MoBo is only 2.5 years old... so shouldb't be giving me issues

They are all four Patriot RAM...  2 sticks are the same, the other 2 sticks are them same... but not all 4 are the same, if that makes sense...

I'll take a pic and post it here in a few minutes

Ah I think I spot the problem, both run at different voltages, let me check your manual again, I'll do it in the morning as bedtime here in UK, you have them in correct slots but the voltages may be set wrong in the bios unless your board autodetects, I thought you said there were 4 sticks?? ' you're getting mixed up with the 4gb you have 2 sticks of 8gb not 4 sticks of 4gb as earlier posts, Take the right hand stick out and try with just the left hand, if still choppy swap modules in left hand

Don't know if it's the RAM... I tried my kid's brand new 16GB of (2 x 8GB) and it still happened....  so I have a feeling it's an issue with the MoBo
