To all my XI family:

I just thought I would pass thison in case anyone else is having the same or similar issues with their computer

I know I am not the only personwho had this issue as Lt. Laszlo also had it

My “gaming rig” is about 6 yearsold and is a bit of a dog, I have upgraded it as far as it will go but limitedfunds have prevented me from getting a replacement.

The original OS was Vista 32 bit Home version which was ok, but nothing towrite home about. Recently I loaded Windows 7 – 64 bit Ultimate onto the unitand at first it seemed great. The computer ran well. All the games and mapsseemed smooth and I almost never had any “freeze” issues like I had with Vista.

About a month or so ago I startedto have problems on a couple of maps, primarily the ones created by Dawgy andPhrog (Desert Idiot and MP Town are the ones in question) Whenever I would playthem I would have horrendous lag issues, with my ping running from mid 40’s toupwards of 600-700 and back again. The game-play was extremely jerky and, even weirderwas that, if I stood close to the edge of the map, my ping would shoot upagain. Even on other maps, this was the same. Glamorgan was another one where,if I crouched at the top of one of the hills, my ping would shoot off thecharts. It also seemed to be getting worse and to the point of totalfrustration that would make me simply give up and stop playing.

I thought it was my connection;however I have a 16 Mb up/4 Mb down cable connections, with a Cisco/LinksysE3000 wireless-N router to which I am hard cabled with a Gigabit Ethernet cardso I was convinced it was not my connection.

Then my, soon to be, ex-wifedecided to trash my gaming rig due to perceived excessive gaming hours(whatever) and I was forced to temporarily use my company laptop which, while akick-ass laptop, is not permitted to have gaming software on it, so I had to “hack”around that restriction. Lo and behold all the maps ran fine so my entirenetwork and connection was eliminated as a source of trouble.

While I was rebuilding my desktopwith cobbled up parts and left-over parts from work I decided to load XP Pro onthe system which turned out to be a major challenge in itself (RAID problems, memory issues, no drivers etc)

Now the strange part – My systemhas never run so good and EVERY map is as smooth as glass, including the greatmaps that the XI peeps have made. My connection is consistently in the 30-35msrange and I am back to being able to be competitive again so the problem had toreside in Windows 7

I was wondering if anyone elsehas seen the same issue or, if you are, perhaps mine, and Laz’s experience canhelp.

I've never had these issues and am running Windows 7 64bit.  However you must realise 64 bit is only just starting to come out on machines as standard.  This is mainly due to these more modern machines being able to handle 64 bit OS.  Memory being a vitual issue with 64 bit.  I wouldn't bother unless you have a minimum of 4 GB.  Readin what you have said, I'm guessing your machine is somewhat very old, and secondly you were running vista 32 bit, and are probably running XP pro 32 bit???  If so, and you are now finding it to be stable, I would guess it not to be windows 7, but the 64 bit version on your hardware.  Can you confirm you were using all 64 bit drivers on the windows 7 64 bit OS?

I know before anyone syas, that most of these games would still install and run within the 32 bit architecture arena of windows 7 64 bit, but this would have little significance as I feel this is more a hardware performance issue on the 64 bit arcitecture.

Had several little issues with 7, on top of the "unstable" ping in the games. Odd part was it seemed fine for months, until I had to re-install it - though a few other little oddities, like Windows Explorer not "seeing" some files but other programs, like picture viewers could. Once I moved them to MyDocuments, Explorer could then see them. Also had video issue in wife's desktop - IE site videos and pictures worked on my desktop but not hers though security and setting were the same. Also, you'll likely find two 'Program Files' folders, one regular and one with a (x86) after. This gets into the 64 versus 32 bit stuff - install in the wrong one and trouble. Morale of the story - old system and Windows 7 = crap! I think you'll need a newer system with 4G ram and later versions of software developed to run on it to eliminate ALL of these nuisances. For now, it's XP for me! Hope BlackOPs works on it!!!

I finally got my Razer Lachesis driver to function, but now I'm having problems with my ZBoard keyboard.  Other than that, I have no issues with Win 7 64 bit.  My kid is running XP and his game loads a bit faster than mine, but he lags a bit more than me...maybe because he's got a 8600 and I'm running a 9800GT.  I still have XP set up on a dual boot...guess I need to remember my password and check out the difference on my machine.  XP will always have a special place in my heart drive.

This seems like the right place to post my issues as well.....

I have an alienware m17x with...if i remember it right....

i7 duo core 920 2.00 Ghz

ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 x2 1 Gig each

8 Gig system memory...thats the important stuff right?

Anyhow...my issue is not with ping i get good connects...its FPS....

For some reason i used to run COD 5 at 110-125 fps and now i get down to 22 fps at times.....when i look at the ground or sky i go to 125 again but as soon as i look around it goes to shit.....

I tried reading about the graphics cards and stuff and i see allot of cryptic talk about SLI???? and Crossfire????

If i know where to start i can read and figure shit out but its the first step i am having trouble finding....

PS. I have tried killing process's that were not needed before logging in....no help.....

PPS. My avatar is a wolf...lol....how do i change that or make a sig....not a big sig....nothing to compensate for...but a sig none the less...lol

I am starting to hate win 7 myself. Ever since I got it it doesn't like to run correctly. Now live messenger doesn't work. Debut is cramping out on me again...no clue why. I had to install the suite edition of CCC to get anything to work when I first got the Dell comp. Now my problems with 7 are getting bigger and bigger. Why can't people actually make code that lasts? Win coding is terrible and Linux doesn't support many programs. Microsft can do better but they would rather watch mony burn then try and debug windows. Many people say win 7 is awesome but I DID NOT have this problem with vista. No problems with vista.just 7
