Hello fello idiots thats not a sexuall term as much as you would like it to be. I've come to warn you I guess for some to late but better later then never (except for 2manybeers) There's been a new rip around the net with some java based attemped to add a virus to you machine. Win 7 antivirus such and such. The difference between the last one and this one is its very in your face and won`t go away.

So here try this if you can

Instructions for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows 98, Windows ME:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel view by Category choose large or small icons
  2. Double-click on the Java
  3. Under the General tab, find the "Temporary Internet Files" section.
  4. Click on the Settings button in the "Temporary Internet Files" section
  5. Click on Delete Files...
  6. You will be asked to confirm; leave the defaults checked and click OK

There getting better out there

Thanks LABOB, do we need to do this on a regular basis? I left 'keep temporary files on my computer' checked, that is why I am asking if this is going to be a regular preventive cleaning that I need to remember

I bought a new computer last Monday and Tuesday the damn "Win 7 Antispyware" showed up and it took control of my machine, the only way I thought at the time was to purchase their product. NEVER do that, it will totally take control of everything and it will delete program files that you need to run. Like it deleted my winconfig file and luckily I had set a restore point before I installed anything. So I had to restore the computer to that point an start over.

I always have my temporary files cache set to 8, which is the lowest it will go. I have it set for 0 days to be ket and also I have it set to delete all temporary files upon exit. You have to clean those files out to keep your machine from dogging down.

Thanks Labob about this and the Java. I will check on that too.

Isn't that the same as going to tools and then internet options?

I couldn't find the way you mentioned above.

OK. I hit Start and then typed in Java in Search and Right clicked on Java and the Java box came up. I then deleted the temporary internet files. I should of viewed them first, but I didn't.

I did click the box to not keep temorary files.

Not the same they are 2 different programs. As for doing this on a regular basis I would think not if you get a java based attack you will know it. The only other thing is to turn java off but then thats the same as turning the internet off :( These attacks are only bad if you acually click on something that runs a program so never trust what you click on.

Thanks Labob......my daughter's  PC was infected last night.  The damn thing makes it so that you cannot even load Spybot or Malware Bytes...it makes everything inaccessible.

Today I checked a site that get some free software from called Giveaway of the Day.  Today you can get a program called The Cleaner 2012.  It is only free through this site and only from another 12 hours from right now.  I tried it and it found things that all of my other spyware and malware utilities did not find.  It looks pretty good and I would recommend giving it a shot.

Something else you can do if it pops up on your screen is to shut your computer down before you click on anything. Then when you restart it will be gone from your screen and not be installed in your computer.

If interested this is the link to the Java page basically saying what Labob has already provided.

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/cache_virus.xml

I have not had problems but did the procedure anyway.
