hey guys,

I cant play cod4 anymore.

I installed windows8 a couple of days ago, ( yeah i know big mistake ),

problem is, Windows 8 cant run Cod4 Properly, so i cant get on the server anymore *sadface*

i have a quite bad computer so i can't put windows7 and windows8 on it.

if someone has suggestions what to do, really thanks

( i re-installed Cod4 already and i re-installed punkbuster, so that's not the problem )

cheers,

chances are that cod4 is an older game and is not compatible with win 8...try rt clickin on the cod4 exe icon on ur desktop and click properties..then click compatibllity tab then select win 7 or vista mode and see what happens there..otherwise u can always downgrade to win 7...only thing i know to try as i have not yet goin to try win 8....as i not liking they way it looks...

And remember to run all tools as Administrator.

Also, check the last entry on page 1 (of 5 so far) regarding the replacement of iw3mp.exe.  No clue if this is safe or not!

No.  Do not downgrade.  Please refrain from un-helpful and ridiculous "solutions."  The answer is out there for this issue.   And let's get real - I specifically recall all the BS about what a crap OS Win7 was.  Of course at that point everyone was whooping and hollering about downgrading all the way back to XP.  Point is, look at all the egg on the faces of those lowercase-i iDIOTS.  Major changes does not = "BS operating system."

Try this:

From the Start Screen:

  • Start typing "comp" (for "computer")
  • under Apps Results for "comp" you will see "Computer"
  • Right-click Computer and select "Manage" from the options at the bottom of the screen.
  • You will be transfered to the Desktop and the "Computer Management" app will start.
  • On the services tree on the left pane of the Computer Management window, expand the "Services and Applications" entry then click in "Services."
  • Scroll down the list of services in the right side of the window till you find one called "PnkBstrA"
  • Does it say "Manual" (or anything else besides "Automatic") in the "Startup" column?
  • If so:  right-click on the PnkBstrA line and select "Properties."
  • Look for the "Startup type" drop-down list about in the middle of the "General" tab and change it to "Automatic"
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK
  • Close the Computer Management app.

Does COD4 work now?

win 8 just out right sux...its built and designed for touchscreen pc....and is not user friendly...its not even friendly for a pc tech...that is why i didnt want to get it...love win7 never had any issues with anything working properly on it...one other solution is ...are u running cod4 in admin mode...only other option would be try consulting with hp themselves to see if they can solve ur issue or microsoft themselves..i dont know that much bout win 8 never even set at pc with it i dont plan on it either...im stickn with win7 its one of their best yet...win8 bomb!!! sad to say

i ve never heard anyone say anything bad bout win7...and it is not ridiculous solution to downgrade if its not workn on the new os and it does on old..and the person using it doesnt know that much bout win8...if i was u i would downgrade to win7 until u can figure win8 out...do some research bout it first that what i do b4 buying any new os or pc program...always got to research to see if you benefit from it or not..personally dont see much different between the 2 except that win 8 is set up for touchscreen and doesnt have typical desktop screen...i personally dont see any need to upgrade to win 8 unless u want to go touchscreen...win7 is awesome and will be for few years to come..

How are you going to figure an OS out unless you work with it?  How are you going to do that once you've downgraded?  Yes it is accommodating of touch devices, but no, it's not exclusively for touch devices, and no, it's not unfriendly to desktops.  Doesn't have a typical desktop screen?  I beg to differ.  It most certainly does.  Saying that tells me you haven't even worked with Win8 for even 5 minutes.  Freaked out about the lack of a Start Orb?  Just move you mouse down to the lower left corner - viola!  Oh, that takes you to the Start Sceen?  Yeah.  It does.  It's the replacement for the Start Menu.  But whatever.  With every new Windows release there are always two camps.  The ones who embrace the new and grow with is, and those who resist and fall behind.  There's no right or wrong answer, just do what you want to do.  But telling people what they should do, especially telling them they should downgrade, is just a slap in the face as if to say, "man did you just fuck up!"  That's always nice to hear, isn't it.  My opinion.

You can have more then 1 OS on the system, under diff logins of course. I have Win XP and Win7x64 with no issues. Other then that CoD isnt really safe with either of them.
