I have been pretty outspoken in defense of Windows 8, and I know that makes some of you scratch your heads.  Hopefully not your butts, but I digress....

All the criticism of Win8 has not been lost on me, and I do believe Microsoft has quite a road ahead as it adapts Win8 (or maybe Win9) to correct some of the widespread, and valid negativity it has attracted.  To that end, I thought I would mention this article as a solid read on what has gone obviously wrong with Win8.  It is presented in a very factual manner and backed by serious usability concepts and studies.

Everyone says Win8 was made for touch screens, but that is only partially true.  Yes, it has elements that clearly target touch screen and handheld devices, but its Desktop is as fully functional as Win7 - IF you take into account (or maybe discount) the fact that the Start Orb has been replaced by the Start Screen.  There's already one paid ($5) and one Free app that gives you a Start Orb back and boots you straight into the desktop, so even the Start Screen can effectively be dismissed on a desktop computer.  As for gaming, I suspect we will see refinements that will correct any deficiencies in that area.  Win8 is built on Win7, so things might need to be cleaned up a bit to brush off the remodeling dust and let the thing shine better.  I will admit, they have quite a cleanup ahead, though...

I have a feeling this was spawned about my post on partitioning a drive to test Win 8. I have done so for the past week and am severely disappointed in Win 8. I wish they had a better platform for gaming. But as far as just a regular operating system it isn't bad. But once you start running games and some other programs I found that I ran into problems. But I'm sure that they need some time to get rid of the bugs just like all other versions of Windows.

This is just my first impression of Win 8 and not a complete rundown of it.

Happy Gaming Friends.

I have been running it for a few weeks, it is noticeably faster than windows 7 at most task, it boots up faster.

The interface is something you have to get used to, I know people that went from XP to 7 bitched about the diff and it was small in comparison, so I am not shocked at the response, most people don't like learning something new. and as I said, games work fine if you don't have to run punk buster

The only thing that's keeping me from Windows 8 (and the Microsoft 2013 software) is the BUTT UGLY GUI!  I don't know what Microsoft was thinking, but whoever came up with that GUI should be fired with extreme violence.
