Now I have this 500 gig drive just laying around. I want to reuse it if there is any way to do economically, so I can have an extra storage device that I have just laying around.

I smoked 2 drives with mine. The drives got really hot and started the click of death. Some of the better enclosures have fans. You can modify them and add your own. I ended up leaving the cover off to disipate the heat and it was ok. GorillaXI 1

I only paid about $10 for the case. Maybe I'll throw it into my work laptop bag for document backups. Thanks all for the input. Edited February 10, 2013 by GorillaXI

It was one of the first ones when these became available I think there were 4 slots in the case to let the heat out- It's no wonder it got hot. You could smell the heat coming off the case and the drives. Maybe the drives were on their way out, and the extra heat sped up their demise. Who knows. You should be ok- if it gets too hot, just open the case to vent it.
