Sounds like you need to upgrade your home insulation if your furnace isnt shutting off. That or the furnace is to small for your home. No matter how cold it gets outside, it should never run non stop. Should get that looked at because if it quits, the expense of frozen pipes will be costly. And at them temps, the house will cool fast.. Take it from a Canadian

Yep, we know the furnace is "borderline" for our house. As is common for lake home in the northwest area of Detroit, most lake homes are or were cottages since in the 30's and 40's this was "up-north" (now it's the upper peninsula of Michigan). I added to my home in 1992, from around 900 square feet to about 1600 (almost double). Because it was small, my furnace, hot water heater, washer & dryer and water softner are all in  an 8' x 7' room (washer & dryer are stacking!). Not a lot of room to put a larger furnace in. Most years not a problem, but between the temps and winds (across the lake we're on), it struggles this year (can't wait for the twenties this weekend!). Don't want to see the gas bill! My oldest son with his truck on the lake - notice the drifts at the house!

Hey Laz, newer furnaces (and even those that produce higher BTUs) are the same size or even smaller than the oldies.  You'll get one in there.

Take it from a Canadian.

It isn't winter until you start to get snow blowing into the house via the bathroom fan and snowing on you while u take a dump, THAT's a Canadian winter.

Wow had a 35 degree warm up today.  We made it to 20 degrees today from (as Bullet said) -15 yesterday morning.  Wind chills have been -20 to -30 here.  Is there a baby boom coming?   This winter has been very snowy and cold for a long time.   I'm ready for SPRING.

True that. Last year I put in a 95% efficient furnace and the ignored my chimney and shot a pvc pipe out the side of my house. The Lenox brand furnace was a well worth it choice. It was just over $3000 but my gas bill is a lot lower and the furnace is a quarter of the size of my old one. And Its so quiet i cant hear it on the main floor.

put in a horizontal furnace under the floor....i have put three in this winter...they don't take up any space..and the efficiency of the new units is a hell of a difference...they've made incredible advances in efficiency in the last five years...you don't need a chimney for the high efficiency units they just vent out the wall...you wouldn't believe the difference in the monthly bills...i would imagine that the unit you have is gobbling up the money,,,get some spray foam and fill those drafts....if i lived there i would put one in for cost Lazlo...that just sucks blowing money out the window...take it from me you would save a bundle

Where did you find a refrigerator with a door that looks just like the front door to my house? and why would there be a door knob on the inside of the refrigerator?

4-6 more inches today! Half of a foot from the snowfall record for this area. I think it will be broken this year!

What Leadfinger the wife never slammed the door on you. We need to practice matrimonial safety first. Any place you might have fun needs a second exit. Women rule da earth does not mean we hav to be silly crumpets. Always a second exit and always a second love ah gaming if your in love but be careful the women  truly a smart predator them women are more savage then you think. Mind you after passing a football through their privates because you had a great night you can not forsake there vengeance.
