That or the furnace is to small for your home. No matter how cold it gets outside, it should never run non stop. Should get that looked at because if it quits, the expense of frozen pipes will be costly. And at them temps, the house will cool fast.. Take it from a Canadian Yep, we know the furnace is "borderline" for our house. As is common for lake home in the northwest area of Detroit, most lake homes are or were cottages since in the 30's and 40's this was "up-north" (now it's the upper peninsula of Michigan). I added to my home in 1992, from around 900 square feet to about 1600 (almost double). Because it was small, my furnace, hot water heater, washer & dryer and water softner are all in an 8' x 7' room (washer & dryer are stacking!). Not a lot of room to put a larger furnace in. Most years not a problem, but between the temps and winds (across the lake we're on), it struggles this year (can't wait for the twenties this weekend!). Don't want to see the gas bill! My oldest son with his truck on the lake - notice the drifts at the house! KingStinger! 1 Awards

You'll get one in there. Take it from a Canadian. It isn't winter until you start to get snow blowing into the house via the bathroom fan and snowing on you while u take a dump, THAT's a Canadian winter. KingStinger! and LtLaszlo 2 Awards

Last year I put in a 95% efficient furnace and the ignored my chimney and shot a pvc pipe out the side of my house. The Lenox brand furnace was a well worth it choice. It was just over $3000 but my gas bill is a lot lower and the furnace is a quarter of the size of my old one. And Its so quiet i cant hear it on the main floor. Awards

My oldest son with his truck on the lake - notice the drifts at the house! put in a horizontal furnace under the floor....i have put three in this winter...they don't take up any space..and the efficiency of the new units is a hell of a difference...they've made incredible advances in efficiency in the last five years...you don't need a chimney for the high efficiency units they just vent out the wall...you wouldn't believe the difference in the monthly bills...i would imagine that the unit you have is gobbling up the money,,,get some spray foam and fill those drafts....if i lived there i would put one in for cost Lazlo...that just sucks blowing money out the window...take it from me you would save a bundle LtLaszlo 1
