Is there a medal for being an Iron Idiot?

I needed a grill guard for my pickup to keep Deer from trying to be a hood ornament so I picked up some sheet metal and started cutting and welding.

Here is the result.

53325833ab64d_grillguard3.jpg

5332586538ab4_grillguard2.jpg

I call it "The Buck Buster"  lol

I made the bumper also but it is separate. The grill guard is hinged at the bottom so it swings down when I open the hood or I can take it off by removing 4 bolts.

I added a couple of ANZO Hi output LED off road lights and coated the grill guard and bumper with black Bed Liner (Bed liner is tough as nails and sticks to about anything)

Yeah it was a long winter

Looks ferocious!

Have you tested it against some trees yet?

( I am curious on the thickness of that sheet metal..  )

No tests yet  . . . .

The sheet metal on the outside is 16 gauge The shape of the pieces (triangular) is what gives it its strength

On the inside I used 1 1/2" square tubing ( 3/16 wall thickness)

The bumper has a piece of 8" channel for a base and I built it up from there finishing it with a 3/16 skin across the front

For that you'll need sharper points, more of them, and several that point forward.   Or  -  you could just paste pictures of LOM on the doors!!

Nice work Lead! That should keep the deer of the hood! Not so sure about the elk, though! My son (20 yrs old) has a welding class now and wantto do one. He put this one on for now he got from a friend that's in the class and has helped him rebuild his truck after accident.

Just sharpen the leading edge of the tines, that way the deer or Zombies roll off in pieces!!!!!!!!!!

Brings back memories of the original Death Race 2000. Loved that cheezy ass movie, even had Frankenstein's car in my slot car collection.

Looks like they did a good job of putting his truck back together. That thing was "beat up from the feet up"

Its good that you son is interested in welding, learning as many trades as he can will make it easier to for him to find a good job

Modern welding is so much more than just joining 2 pieces of metal and there is good money to be made.

Encouragement and praise results in successful kids and proud parents.

Thanks Mr. Laszio . . . .  and for you

Yes, I'm quite proud of him. Very ambitious kid! Only paid $450.00 for the truck, a great deal since the seller thought it had a siezed up axle - which turtned out to be something with one of the rear brakes. Just did a "rattle can" paint job, since we don't have the place to paint, but this was good first practice for him to do the real restoration he wants to do.....on this 1967 Chevy C10!

That 1967 C-10 looks to be in pretty good shape. Maybe he wont have to spend so much time fixing stuff and instead have time to customize it a little.  I hope he is thinking about a part time job cuz he will need some "scratch" to buy parts and supplies. Projects like these always seem to kick my butt and I spend more than I budget.

You know we will need some progress pics after he gets going

Settle down Shaggy . . . .lmao

Whereas his son isn't too young to corrupt into a gearhead that's his dad's privilege if he chooses to do so. There are a lot of worse bad habits he could take on but being a gearhead is much more desirable than a crackhead.

Do you think 3 inches will be enough?

Great work! I wish I had one of those when a deer jumped out of the ditch 5 years ago while I was driving to my astronomy club's observatory. Bastard caused just under $6,000 in body damage.

Depends on what seats you put in you could go lower but I hate having my legs sticking straight out and bashing my head into the roof when hitting bumps.

The 4 legged bastards dont carry any insurance so with this grill guard I get assurance that they pay the ultimate price.
