Was wondering if anyone has driven the TransCanada Highway in Northern Ontario. On May 26 im flying out to London Ontario and picking up a 2003 sterling truck for my employer and my concern is driving an unfamiliar 11 year old vehicle that i dont know the fuel economy on in remote Ontario. Google tells me nothing about where all the fuel stops are and the map looks very baron up there.. The first picture is the route im taking. Originally i was planning on cutting threw the USA but my employer said the insurance company told him we cant take a vehicle in transit into the USA. So question is has anyone driven that road and is there lots of fuel stops for diesel or a lack of them? Or does anyone know of where/how I can find out?

Hey Stinger, I have driven most of that route. growing up in Ottawa and moving west had me doing that often, minus the drive to Timmins. I usually went either south of the lakes or along the coast til Thunder Bay. Either way its a long drive. Being that your from south of me in Bridge, the praires are painfull flat!

Good luck Buddy!

I'm a professional driver and have done both roads. There are fuel stops about every hour lots to see and its a long drive. Now the north route  11 is about 2 hours longer and flat and boring. I use to take it during the winter colder then hell but better then colder then hell and tons of snow. I advise you if you have never driven the lakehead  17 to go that way. The views will be with you for the rest of your life. Find out what fuel card you use and I'll help more.

Thanks for the info. I was advise to take the north road, the 11 because i was told the south road the 17 has very little fuel stops and no cell phone service for hours and hours. Thats why I planned the north road. Are you saying that the south road isnt that bad? As for a fuel card, the entire trip, fuel, food, lodging will all be credit card.

Much much more on the south road. Its the tourist route.  Go 400 then 69 then 17   So you go London to the Sault 10 easy hours. Or Wawa 12 hours . Then to Dryden or Kenora another 12 hours Then your finally out of Ontario Try for Moose Jaw or The Swift Then your Home yeaaaa. Either way you decide 11 or 17 its real hard to go over an hour with out finding a restaurant or fuel.  I have to say though if you have never seen the Great lakes 17 is the way to go. It should be on everybody's bucket list. Simple awsome.

Awesome, thanks so much @@Labob I really appreciate the input. After reading yours and @7toes_ky posts i looked up gas stations and food and lodging on google earth and i made the decision to go on the south road along the lake instead.

And my boss emailed me the wrong truck picture. Its this one from Tatro Trucks in Chatham Ontario. I was wondering why he wanted that piece of crap in the other picture. This one looks better thank goodness.

Not going on the 401 @@StormCrow but close lol. Here is my planned route.

The reason for the slight detour at Hamilton is because im staying the first night at the Comfort Inn on Centennial Parkway in Hamilton where my Mom and Brothers are going to come pick me up and go for supper the evening of May 26. They live in St.Catharines where i grew up. I would say maybe the next morning maybe, is that to early for a beer? lol

Hey KingStinger,

If you need someone to meet you at the airport in London to give you a lift, let me know. I live just outside London and work 20 minutes from the airport. My job definition means that I'm away from the office more than I'm in, so my schedule is flexible. Let me know!

Cheers,

I appreciate the offer bud, thank you. My boss is trying to arrange for one of 2 things to happen:

1) Someone from Tatro Trucks in Chatham will come to the airport and pick me up and bring me to the truck in Chatham.

OR

2) Tatro Trucks brings the truck to the airport for me to take it from there.

I will let you know.. Thank you :)
