So i feel like starting an argument today. I Tried googling this but mixed reviews are all i got (i'm expecting the same here).

I have an 8 Core AMD FX 8370. Friends are saying i should have gotten a 4 core Intel 4790K.

The question is AMD 8 core or Intel 4 core?

I know intel is five years ahead of AMD. I know intel is superior. But will the future of gaming rely on 8 cores in the years to come?

Let me know your thoughts!

All your benchmarking needs: http://www.futuremark.com/hardware/cpu

What makes the intel CPU better for gaming is that the individual cores are stronger than AMD's. 99.99% of games use 4 or fewer cores.

In Crysis 3, which can use 8 threads, you see the 8350 slightly outpacing the 3570k. However, I don't recommend an 8 core chip for a gaming system. While games in the future will use more cores, the fact is that determining whether enough will use 6-8 cores for the chips to be competitive with the I5's is nothing more than a guess.

Also, there's a strong likelihood that by the time enough games do, both platforms will be obsolete.

I completely agree with this statement. By the time games will need more cores, AMD's current 8 core CPUs will not be powerful enough for future games. Intel's new 6 and 8 cores stand a better chance than AMD's chips since the i7s have more power than the current FX series. But there is still a chance both chipsets will be obsolete by the time games need that much power.

Don't know why AMD insists on calling them an 8 core CPU.In reality there are only 4 physical cores and 4 Logical cores. The 4790K Also has 4 + 4 4 Physical + 4 Logical Cores.

Most people that build AMD systems are on a pretty tight budget.$350 Intel CPU VS a $200 AMD CPU.The Best AMD Motherboard is currently $219 (Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z) VS $350 for the best Intel 1150 Z97 motherboard.

Personally I would go with something like the Intel i7 5930k 6 cores 12 threads and the newer socket 1151.The Intel Z170 chipped motherboard is a beast. And who can't forget 3000mhz DDR4 memory.Just wish I had the 1.5k $$$ to build the one I want.

I built my PC on a very tight budget.Bought everything 1 piece at a time and when they went on sale.As of now I have $768 into it over the last 3 years. With upgrades.

For gaming purpose, the Intel K series perform a lot better than comparable AMD, think of it as M16 vs AK47. But there are more in addition to the cpu alone. You need to pair it with a good gpu. And, one more out of your control is the "Ping".
