The 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings - the last successful invasion of England - has just taken place with a reenactment of the decisive conflict in Sussex.  William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, took the crown after King Harold II was killed (supposedly by an arrow through an eye).

The reenactment was produced by "Aljazeera," wth? Isn't that the same organization that shows be-headings of Westerners, and is a venue for pro-radical Islamists who want to rid the world of "infidels?"

Or, am I mistaken?

I'm not trying to stir any pots, I was just wondering if I had my info. straight. Ayaq

It's an independent news agency. They get all the beheading videos because mainstream outlets don't show them or edit them to suit their agenda.

Actually the last successful invasion of England is happening right now, 100's of 1000's every year invading us, unfortunately we are not fighting back because instead of arrows and swords injuring us it seems we are more afraid of the word "racist" so we accept our fate.

Same here. Don't need fifth columnists anymore, the federal government insists we accept our invasion and even uses our tax dollars to transport our invaders here. Compaints? We'll strip you of your rights, finances, and property.

Yep. Aguincourt was one of my favorite battles from days gone by. Did that mean the French were beaten by Norman descendants?

Actually the Normans were really descendants of the Vikings or Norseman...thus Normans who were granted or gifted land in Northern France ie Normandy as a bribe to stop them causing trouble, if you watch the series Vikings it is getting to the point where they attacked Paris, so the series is pretty accurate so far, they had already been raiding Britain for a while and were granted/gifted certain parts of the country to settle in, as in France, to stop them causing more havoc....of course The Battle of Hastings was much later than this but that is how Norsemen became Normans, so really it was Vikings descendants attacking Vikings descendants at Agincourt.....grrr fucking Viking troublemakers lol.

Henry V, the victorious English king, was a descendant of William I.

Whilst I haven't seen "Vikings", I doubt its authenticity as a reliable telling of what history is recorded, as I doubt anything produced as a work of fiction or entertainment.  See: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/apr/09/is-vikings-historically-accurate

For an explanation of the reasons for the Battle of Hastings, this official history is useful:

https://history.blog.gov.uk/2016/01/05/the-death-of-edward-the-confessor-and-the-conflicting-claims-to-the-english-crown/

The English noblemen at Agincourt might have been descended from Vikings but the soldiers would not have shared their ancestry.

Even today, our genes remain largely Anglo-Saxon.

It was reported on by AJ not produced by them.  We have access to many news sources in Europe.

I don't really care how authentic it is i was just giving a brief outline about how Normans and Normandy were named, i mentioned Vikings because in the last series the Vikings/Norsemen were making attacks against Paris which really did happen be it in a "fictional" TV series or not, just to get the point across of how they ended up settling in France, as i said the Normans came much later in history but were still very much descended from the Vikings.....but thanks for the lecture.....again!... bet i can piss higher up the wall than you can though.

Sorry spelling Agincourt wrong, typing on a pad sucks. Forgot about the French offering Normandy as a pacifier to the Norse. Hmmm, lesson here about handing sovereignty to non-native peoples?
