They had this guy who can bend spoons with him mind. He was also able to describe a painting in another room. The CIA was trying to tap into that and more. Interesting stuff. Even then, the Russians and East Germans apparently did not detect the presence of the bridgetaps. That fact indicates a pretty sophisticated methodology employed to isolate the bridgetaps and clandestine recording equipment so they would not be seen on capacitive length measurements or resistive length measurements.
