So after trying to play newer games on my old gaming laptop (2014 MSI GT70, gtx770m), and finding them borderline unplayable (20fps mid settings) I decided to go all out and build my first desktop gaming pc. luckily I have a buddy from college who lives nearby and has previous experience with stuff. He built a tentative list of parts for me in my budget and I altered a few things here and there. Everything has arrived safely via FedEx and I'm just waiting till Thursday for my buddy to come over and help me build it. I'll post pics once completed. So on to the parts list!

First off everything is going to be seated in a Corsair Carbide 400C ATX Mid Tower Case. It has a hinged smoke window on one side for easy access and viewing.
My power supply is a EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W 80. Plenty of additional power ports for upgrades down the line.
My motherboard is a Asus STRIX Z270-E GAMING. It is the top end Strix mobo, but not as crazy as some.
For now I'll be running 16GB of Corsair Vengance ram (8GBx2 DDR4).
Processor is an Intel i7 6700K 4.0GHz.
To cool that down I have a Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler.
The graphics card I chose is a MSI GTX 1080 Duke 8GB OC. It comes over clocked from the factory and has three cooling fans. The thing is huge, about the length of my forearm. (There was a sale and the Duke was actually cheaper than a standard MSI 1080)
Storage is going to be handled by a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD and a Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM HDD. My case has three SSD slots so I'll probably pick up a 500GB or 1TB SSD down the line.
FInally I'll get to see everything through an Asus VG248QE 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz monitor.

What do you all think of the build?

Sounds kickass to me. Been rolling my own for the last 20 years, you'll love your new toy. Nothing like hitting the power switch and Frankenstein posts to life. You'll also be stunned at how beautiful your games are @ 1920x1080, after running notebooks. Makes killing folks on the other side of the map much easier. Enjoy!!

Very nice, it should run great! You will be able to set everything to Ultra on just about any game and it will be buttery smooth.

My laptop has a 60Hz 1920x1080p screen so the biggest upgrade in visual hardware will be to that 144Hz. Also 17.3" to a 24" screen is a big difference.

DAMAGEPLAN do you have EFT? I've been interested in it, but haven't gotten it due to A] not having an appropriate PC and B] reports of lots of bugs and horrible US servers.

Texas when I got my laptop it made sense, I was a college student that was constantly commuting to school and I needed to be able to bring my work with me. It has an i7 processor and a gtx 770m gpu so in its day it could run skyrim, fallout, bf3, etc. on high/ultra settings at 60fps. its only sucks now because of the 3GB vram where most games now need at least 4.

Yeah I bought the Edge Of Darkness package. I'm currently Alpha testing the game. It's got a few bugs like any new game but the potential is looking pretty good to me. It's gonna be a pretty decent game when it's done. I love it. Just need a team of people to play with.

Well now that I have a system that can run it I'll be looking into getting it, and we can squad up once I do.

Very nice! Building your own rig is the only way to go. It's quite simple and you save a bundle of money verse buying one prebuilt. I would love to run an i7 processor but I could never justify to myself spending that kind of money. I'm jealous!
