@Sitting-Duc

Why can't we edit our posts forever?

Example: I have a post with a youtube video that youtube took down. Now it shows a blank video.

I would like to replace the video with the one I have but it won't allow me to edit my post.

Brings me to this point. When I put wrong pic, video or any other graphic into a post and realize my mistake so I go to edit and delete it and I can't replace it with another, it won't allow it.

Used to be able to but not any more.

Can all this be fixed?

Not all you mention is broken and therefore cannot be fixed.

To answer your first question - simply it gets abused in many different ways and as such it is easier and more manageable to put a time limit on editing.

To your second point, can you provide some more information. Are you talking about when you are editing that this happens or when you are creating a new topic/post/PM and have not yet created the content?

Never-mind I re-read the post. I will have a look at that.

When I am editing a post. It even does it pm's.

It was so much nicer when doing a sig for someone to overwrite the other one so I didn't have to make several posts with updated ones.

OK I checked the first. Created a topic with an image. Then went back and edited the post, deleted the image and added a new one. Works fine for me so can you provide some more detail/screenshot perhaps showing the error so I can understand better.

The editing timeout has been this way for a considerable length of time so unsure why it is only an issue now. Either way I see no real benefit of changing it.

I add a picture, video or sig to a post. I go back to edit, delete it and when I try to repost another one in its place it won't let me. I actually have to make a new post to add another one.

Define: 'won't let me'. That implies that either an error message is coming up or a button is greyed out or a technical thing is happening.

I have mentioned it many times but did not get any responses.

I did not realize it was getting abused.

I understand now why you are doing it the way you are.

It won't let me replace it with a new one once I have deleted the old one in the post.
I do get a pop up but I can't remember what it says.

The contents of that popup may be useful to understand..

I just tried to do it but this time I did not get a pop up.

What it did show was the link for the one I deleted in between the 2 pictures.

The other part is it now only shows the one picture where you can delete the pics.

If you can you can go into my pms and see it. It is the first pm on my list.

Also I am getting an error when I am trying to post the pictures into a post even though they can show up in the post.

I am going to try to delete the picture in this post to see if I get a pop up.

I have looked at this and cannot see what's going wrong sorry, trying the scenarios mentioned works for me. That means it could be permissions related or something compatibility wise. Do you know of anyone else who has had the issue where we could try and make a correlation?

I mentioned it in the signature section a long time time ago and I believe the responses were some went through it. Been so long I truly can't remember.

It used to be I could overwrite a previous one but now I have to make several posts to show updated sigs, pictures or videos.

This is also happening in PM's.

If it's a permission thing then that's ok. I accept that.

I am aware of similar issues in the past, and vaguely recall when signatures had problems which was (I thought) resolved. I guess I am at a loss as without being able to reproduce it I can do nothing easily.. reproducing it means log verbosity can be changed and errors captured. And without an error I can't really go to IPS with a bug/issue.

The component that IPS uses for the WYSIWYG editor is the same in the forums as PMs so that makes sense whatever the issue is affects all.

By permissions I was more implying that perhaps it is something that only effects registered users due to differing configuration, that is why it would be useful to get an understanding of how many people this effects.

I tried to do a test by sending you a PM with a pic. Then I deleted the pic. I reuploaded it in same message box and it worked!!

You must of worked some magic because it is not doing it anymore.
