help all is a mess cod 4

Hi my lost family, little old senz here again .

COD4 has been bad of late kept crashing on start up. So after some trying different things I uninstalled and then reinstalled it, but it does not like the server patch I have.  says our server is a different version 1.7. Is 1.7 what i need I thought I had, if wrong can it be lowered 1.6 or raised if there is 1 ?? 

Is also punkbuster needed as I thought that has ended???

Does any of that make any sense ???

Yes you do need patch 1.7

If you go to the community tab at the top of the screen you will see a drop down tab Downloads if you look in Cod4 you will find all the patches.

But if the game was crashing before it was more than likely due to the sound drivers on you PC so it might be a good idea to update them while you are at it.

Sometimes if your sound settings are set a certain way. The game will crash on start up until you plug in your head phones. If this is the case, it will crash everytime.. not sometimes. 

But sounds like you already reinstalled. I would do what they're recommending. Get the patches from the Xi download section and PB as well. And yes, PB for cod4 isn't supported anymore. But you can still install it. Some, not all.. but some servers still require it to join their server. 

Also, sometimes the mod patch for servers  can be corrupt or missing files. Simply go in your cod4 folder and find where the mods are located. Delete the file for that mod. Then rejoin that server to reinstall that mod.
