'Nuts', one of the greatest replies ever

Great to see the interest in the younger generations

I'm amazed how little some of the buildings have changed, they've lasted longer than a pair of Loaders underpants.

One of the best movies about Bastogne was Battleground, with Van Johnson, filmed in 1949. Glorified nothing about war, but showed normal men thrown into a horrific situation, and how they pulled together to survive.

That generation of soldiers did not talk about their times there, and now most of them are gone.  World War 2 was the definitive good vs evil war.

And yet there are always similar local battles of good vs evil.  Humans are the most dangerous species on earth.  World War 2 shows the devastation, horror, pain, grief, suffering and overall waste of what can happen when we humans have bad leaders.  My wish is that we DO learn from past mistakes, that we not let petty hate and fear of the difference in us, along with greed of the few in charge, take over and ruin things, as it does over and over and over.  Let us be wise and good and kind and thoughtful.  Amen

My uncle Max flew B-25s in Africa & Corsica. All my friends fathers flew B-17s & B-24s over the continent. They all loved to talk about their planes and the experiences they had. Nobody mentioned the loss rate & friends that didn't come back. Uncle Robert was in Korea, but he never talked about it. One of our farming neighbors was also in Korea, and all he said was it came down to us or them, and it wasn't gonna be us. Keep those guns singing or we've seen our last sunrise.

The reason most don't talk about war is because it's truly terrible, but what TLCB says is absolutely fact, losing or doing nothing has far far worse consequences. Those of you reading this who are conscience objectors, better red than dead, draft dodgers etc etc should hold your head in shame that brave men have sacrificed their lives to enable you to live yours, cowards the lot of you, nothing less.

My nieghbor was a navigator on a B17. He was there during all the big bombing raids over Germany that you read about. He never talked about it at all. But he did show me his flight diploma that listed all his missions. The only time he ever mentioned any of it. He was part of all the fire bombing.  My Dad served in Korea as a medic. He talked very little about it.  But I had heard on one hill of around 400 men he was one of just a few survivors after a huge attack. I have one of his cavalry year books from the war.  Some of the pictures are horrifying to what they faced on a daily basis
