Fortunately, we flew out of HK the day before a powerful one hit, on our last visit many years ago. The Great Hurricane in the UK is my only personal experience - that lifted our garage roof off and placed it back down out of place. A neighbour's garage wall collapsed on his car. My relatives live on HK Island in a tower block but have a home also on Luzon.
