'here we go again'

You might already know that the NVidia 8000 series failed, especially on the 8800 series that they die within, or after 2 years. Now I have read an article that the latest videocards of NVidia got that same issue as they used the same construction. So meaning by that the 'lay it in the oven fix' will be applied but WTF!

Take your time and be warned to read this;

http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/07/12/nvidia-backpedals-gf100gtx480-underfill/

"

AFTER WEEKS OF hunting down obscure sources harboring even more obscure technical knowledge, we can say that Nvidia massively screwed up the GF100 based cards, they have reverted to using some of the Bumpgate bad materials again. Nvidia is once again unwilling to talk about it, and their customers probably will be kept in the dark too.

My 8800GT's are still going strong after 2+ years of a hard overclock and lost of abuse.

So, you can either choose crappy drives (ATI), or hardware that fails after 2 years.  hmmm.....Personally, I'd rather replace my hardware every 2 years than deal with crappy drivers every day.

My BFG 8800GT was in my pc for 2 years and is now in my son's pc and still running strong, after I upgraded to a GTX285.  I think it's all about pc case temps and keeping the dust from accumulating.  In the past, cards that I did not necessarily take care of crapped out at a year or so.

The process (BGA) is having the issue and it will not show on every card.BGA stands for Ball grid array. Manufactures have moved away from PGA which ispin grid array. BGA is balls of lead that sit between the chip and the boardthis is very hard to do over time they can loose there connection between thechip and the board. That’s where this oven thing comes into play the oven heatsthe lead and makes the connection aging with the board.

But make a mistake of overheating and your card is junk.

i've had two Nvidia card and they both failed beffore they could get OLD so u would want to replace it, my first cards processor burn down and second stop working for some odd reason ... altho i never had any issues with Ati Radeon cards .. i had to replace them just because they got old and games requierd faster cards.. i never bought new nvidia cards after that and never liked Nvidia anyway and the thing with ATI is that u can actualy rely on them without having to worrie it would fail

I've been through 4x 8800 Ultras, all burn't out.  Lucky under the alienware warranty.  I now have a 295GTX free to replace them, as I refused to have another one crash and burn.  ATI in the future :)

note also that semiacurate are sponsorized by ati

so no accurate reviews or articles anyway :)

well maybe semi accurate articles, yea lets say this :D

its funny to see some of those articles online when nvidia just release new cards that outperform ati ones lol

now its seems some 400 cards have failures, mine was one of them, im sending it back to evga

but yea ati dont make cuda cards anyway, so no real choices for me

glad i choose evga with their good support and warranty system

i've had Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 512Mb for a year now and never had any

issues with it, but thinking about replacing it for Sapphire Radeon HD

4870x2 2GB GDDR5 since new games coming out and i think i need more raw

power than 512Mb and costs a bit over 421,- EUR
