Why won't Windows 7 let me save changes to config_mp.cfg? I'm logged in as administrator, and administrator has permission to edit the file. But it refuses permission to save editing changes.

Are you editing the right one ?, If you have UAC enabled then you should be editing the one that is in the virtual store folder, not the program files folder

Thanks all - I do have UAC enabled and edited the version in the Program Files folder - and the changes worked.

Tball's advice is right on! Try a clean install before reverting back to Vista. I've heard from many now that W7 is working out better than Vista. In every case, each person performed a clean install.

Dont wipe it first as I dont know if upgrade media will work if it doesnt find the old OS - do the 'upgrade' style, then around 4 or 5 screens in, it will ask you if you want to install or upgrade. Choose install, then on the disk screen select advanced options and choose 'format'. The program will do the rest for you. Thats what I did with an upgrade media and it worked fine.. I also took the opportunity to load the 64 bit version in case the old lady lets me upgrade my processor and MB one day to a 64 bit system

I know that sounds messed up, but 64-bit loads just fine on a 32-bit system and runs like a champ. Its basically there waiting for the new hardware
