This is a windows7 64bit fix, the location may be different for other OS's, this patch messed my game up and I was unable to even join a server, and this is how I was able to fix it...

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Users\(user name)\My Documents\Battlefield 3 and rename the folder "Settings" to something else as a backup or you could just delete it.  Upon restarting your game a new default "Settings" folder will be created automatically. Now start the game and see if you are able to enter a server, if so right away change your settings to something other than custom the lower the better and wait for the map to change until the screen says "Saving".  Leave the server and try to join another server, if you are now able to join and play stable, adjust your settings back up incrementally.

For me there was an issue with fullscreen/windowed mode, I have still not finished correcting this problem but I am now able to play with no gameplay issues.

If this worked for you or not please post the results, this is only what worked for me and others might find it useful.  I hope it works for you as well.

NOTE:

Venery found a fix with this patch where he shut down his EVGA overclock utility.

X-Fire and TS is known to have issues with the game.

It didn't work for me.  Even if the game had remained running for enough time to alter any settings, I couldn't locate where one alters them... It froze even before spawning after about one minute!  The in-game menus all seem to be about customising load-outs.

Can you tell me what you already tried with a list?  So we can look what the issue is? Plus, what is your hardware.

1. Repair - no corrupt files and latest version of game installed;

2. Registry check - all good;

3. Update of AMD video driver to latest version;

4. Primalfear's suggestion.

5.  Disabled Realtek HD audio driver - no change - game froze up and stopped working.

Hardware: i7-860, 2.8Ghz, Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit, Radeon HD 6870 1GB video card (factory settings, no overclock), 4GB RAM

Just minor niggles before the patch but able to play.  Post patch, connection to servers very slow if at all and BF3 stops working within a minute of joining game.

The issue is the patch so until DICE mends what they have broken, I fear there isn't a great deal one will be able to do...

installed it ..zero erroe since ..no flickering ..fixed everything for me ..playing non-stop since then..

I guess it could be graphics card driver..

What I would do ..

**try chrome as your gaming browser ..I heard it helped a lot to some ppl.... some times it could be flash player too that needs to be updated....

Option 1 : install game from scratch ..if that doesnt fix it then..

Option 2 (if Option 1 doesnt work) :

back up all ur important stuff to another hard drive...

-install windows again from scratch..

-install latest video driver for ur card...

--dont install realteck audio driver..let windows install the sound driver...to avoid any sound driver issue with game...

-if u can play the game ..t

-hen go ahead install sound driver and see if u can play game or not ..

-that should do it ...

The only problem I have is that I can't run xfire when the game is on otherwise the game won't launch. But that's not a big deal I just turn it off.

Option 2...  Are you serious???!!! Surprised

As with just about all PCs bought off the shelf, OS disks are not supplied.

I know you mean well but I do much more with my PC than play BF3...

I'd have to ask anyone suggesting radical "fixes" whether they had carried them out themselves

with a successful outcome as they infer that the root cause of the problem is known (and it

clearly is not).

The game publishers are both better equipped and obliged to investigate the problem their developers have caused

and the fact that thousands of people are suffering identical symptoms points to a problem they ought to be able to

identify with their in-house test rigs.

There's only so much jumping through hoops that a player is prepared to do and I have finished mine.

I do not believe this is something a user can possibly fix - had that been the case, the fix would be out there and

certified by a large number of players.

IT's not the game, its something on your system, slow load times are the only problem I have had and some gpu oc stability issue that was fixed with a voltage tweak.  I run afterburner, EVGA E-leet, Teamspeak 3, Real Temp and task manager all while playing the game both before and after the patch. I turned off hyperthreading and this game use's 75 percent of an I7 920 quad@ 4.2 and almost 4gb of ram it's a hog of a game! I dont have x-fire anymore so can't comment on it but x-fire never worked for me the way it was supposed to anyway. I could only see and chat to my friends, it never linked to games right for me so no joining on a friend thru it!  If it is the game it seems to be a memory leak issue read this link below. hope this can get someone else back in

bf3.

win7 32-bit users try this it worked for a friend of mine who just installed the game after the patch and his system would bf3 stopped  responding even in campaign mode. if you read it all 64-bit users have done it to and smoothed out game play some too.
