My old Sapphire 4870X-2 finally gave it up. Installed a new XFX R7870 Black Edition Overclocked GHz Edition 2 gig card. My 4870 was benchmarking around 13,950, the new card is just over 21,000. I had ordered the 7870 GHz edition but Newegg sent me the black edition. I ain't complaining, thanks Newegg! Big difference in the games, a lot smoother.

I agree with that overclocked is not a good thing i would take it back and ask for one that is not over clocked or u might fight it burning out quicker than one that has no over clock or u can go into the card set up and set it to the stock settings and u might find it will last longer or u can take the card out and add some more thermal paste to the chip witch is under the gfx fans the come with 2 fans unscrew both fans and the heat sink plate and u will see the chip under both and u will notice there is only a thin layer of paste all ready and if its a mucky brown colour than u will no u have to add more and if it is a mucky brown colour then it goes to show its running hot any way there is some option for u hope i helped gl

Congrats! And don't worry about a factory overclocked card. It's been tested to work just fine at that frequency and you have a warranty.
I've been overclocking for years - even cards already superclocked -  and I have not lost one single card or CPU.

keep the card and congrats

if you think that the over clock is hurting it , you can always clock down to regular speeds, problem solved.

Well, for what it's worth, it's got a lifetime warranty and they overclocked it. I ain't got nothing to loose or complain about. Besides, the most important thing is that i'm able to get back on the FT server and kill some idiots!

Nope, that's just wrong.

These cards and processors have so much engineering safety overhead that it's totally safe to overclock them.  Especially when done at the factory.  With the overclock they dial in, there's still a solid 20% safety margin.  They typically use a higher performance VRAM, too, so they can clock up without being choked by lower performance memory.  Price point is typically quite advantageous and benchmarks often rival the next step up.  In my case, the overclocked 660Ti in my system is performing at a level nearly on par with a stock 670.

Yes, you can blow a GPU or CPU if you don't know what you're doing.  That said, my CPU is running about 27% above rated speed - 4.07GHz  overclocked to 4.2GHz.  It's been doing that since I built in in 2009.  Stable as a psychiatrist and purrs like a kitten.  Does the quarter mile in a millisecond or two.  It really is all that an a bag of chips.  Super-sized.  Whatever.

overclocked in factory means they're responsible for it...if you overclock yourself warranty void....twenty bucks more for the warranty on overclocking by factory...or save twenty bucks overclock yourself burn up no warranty...simple choices in life make it so easy to live....he he

plus the fact that they are responsible if it burns up...so overclocked from the manufacturer is A1,,,,despite what they tell you,its better to buy overclocked as the chips are usually better than stock models....and the manufacturer puts it through a rigorous process that will ensure your guarantee that they have done it themselves for you ....so you don't burn up your new card turning it into a paper weight, plus the fact its only about twenty or so more dollars for piece of mind overclocked cards,,,you can't go wrong...nice card my man just keep the dust bunnies out of it...lol

Glad you're happy, most of my rig is still from 2006/07.. however, I just had to replace my XFX 8800GTX 768mb as it burnt out on me.

I grabbed the MSI Twin Frozr version of the HD 7850 and I love it, playing very nicely with everything even on an old mobo(evga 780i ultra) and cpu(q6600 OC'd to 3.0).

ENJOY!
